The door opened and both Kara and Lena’s jaws dropped in shock. Kara’s doppelganger strode into the room, a version of Kara sans bangs wearing a supersuit neither woman recognized.
“Who are you?” Kara-2 ordered, and Lena felt Kara stiffen in front of her.
“Who are you?” Kara retorted defiantly and Lena rolled her eyes, catching as she finished that both Karas had the same stubborn, confused set to their face.
“I’m Kara Zor-El,” Kara’s double replied. “Champion of Earth.”
Kara’s brow furrowed. “I’m Kara Zor-El, Champion of Earth.” There was a tense standoff as the two superheroes processed the information, before Kara worked her jaw and spoke. “Which Earth is this?”

Lena lets out a careful breath and says, “James and I have decided to end our— association.”
What a perfectly weird and roundabout way to describe the end of a romantic relationship, Kara thinks. “Oh?” she says, aptly demonstrating her own comparative lack of eloquence.
It earns her one of Lena’s crinkly smiles at least, affection clear on her best friend’s face. “Should I feel offended that you don’t seem all that surprised?” she flusters.
“No,” Kara says, “I am,” and she is, is the thing, she's actually stunned, but she’s something else, much more than that.
She’s elated.
“Bummer,” Kara says.

Summary
Lena Luthor has been at the center of several assassination attempts, orchestrated by her now imprisoned brother, and all of which have been thwarted by the DEO and Supergirl.
But Lena is getting more and more frustrated by the secrets the DEO (and Supergirl by extension) is keeping from her. She vents her frustration to Kara, who against her better judgement agrees to go with Lena on a non DEO sanctioned outing to one of Lex’s abandoned buildings. There they discover a secret lab, which becomes their prison when they fall victim to a trap Lex has set for Lena and Supergirl, in the form of red kryptonite.
Lena’s not worried, because for the first time in weeks she’s finally dodged her super hero shadow. It’s just her and Kara, so of course the red k shouldn’t have any effect on them.
She’s not worried, until she sees the look of absolute panic in her friends eyes.

The glasses slip from Kara’s face and Lena almost drops them onto the floor. She thought she was prepared, throughout the fifteen seconds of realisation, but it hits her like a train wreck. All the composure dissolved from her frame, and she closes her eyes, hoping that when she opens them, it’s all going to be a bad dream. But her eyelashes flutter open, and Supergirl is sitting across from her, wearing Kara’s clothes.

“It’s bedtime, Lena.”
“I just have a few more emails to send and some files to look over.”
Kara groans into Lena’s lap, nuzzling her cheek against the softness of Lena’s sweater. Lena’s left hand goes for Kara’s hair, and her right goes back to her laptop. “I know, darling. I know. If you can be good and wait, I’ll make it worth your while.”
The words are accompanied by a scratch to Kara’s neck, and she prays that Lena can't feel the way she twitches at her tone. Her low voice. Her words. Sometimes this makes Kara wonder how on earth she didn't catch on to her attraction sooner.
“Worth my while, she says.” Kara hums, propping herself up. “And what would that entail, Ms Luthor?”
“That would ruin the surprise, now wouldn’t it darling?” She asks, hand coming up briefly to stroke at Kara’s cheek. “You can be patient, Ms Danvers.”
