As a child, and a rare breed of Hybrid, Ignis runs afoul of an advantageous human Trader and thus his life is set on a path that leads him far from home and to the distant kingdom of Lucis.
Meanwhile, a lonely Prince grapples with his place in the world, and what it means to take responsibility for a Kingdom where not all people who reside there are legally recognized as citizens.

Shiro opens his mouth to respond, but all that comes out is an embarrassingly high-pitched squeak of a sound. The man blinks, and in misery, Shiro watches as a tiny smile twitches up the corner of his mouth. Shiro’s face gets hotter, but it also feels like his heart skips a damned beat.
Oh no, Shiro thinks. I’m in so much trouble.

"If you're driving sucks so bad, maybe you should be the one watching it."After the fall of Insomnia, Noct and the others struggle to find a sense of normalcy while on the run. Tension grows between Gladio and Ignis, throwing the whole dynamic out of whack. Noct struggles to keep things together.

"So. You always follow strangers into the desert?" Wolfwood asks as they approach the fueling station, mirroring Vash's thoughts.
"Only the pretty ones," Vash counters with a shrug, unsure of what possesses him to say it. His ears get hot immediately afterward.
Wolfwood merely grins a sharp-toothed smile as they keep walking. "This could be the part where I shoot you in the back of the head and steal all your money."
Vash and Wolfwood decide to get to know one another better following their first meeting and the incident with the grand worm. Things get interesting and immediately become too much.

“We saw them in the movie and now they’re here,” Noctis says, and twists in the chair in order to press himself against Ignis. He’s usually such a bright, happy child, it hurts to see him so withdrawn. Understandable, under the circumstances, but still.
“The movie?”
“Lord Amicitia let us watch a zombie movie this afternoon,” Ignis reports.
“Ah.” Oh yes, Clarus’ first love- shitty old horror movies. He’s fond of cornering Cor when he’s stuck in the hospital and can’t escape and making him watch them with him, so Cor’s seen a zombie movie or two, or twenty. The ronin, with its almost-human body and terrifyingly human voice, would certainly seem like a zombie to a scared young boy who already has the undead on the mind.
(an attack on insomnia strands the young prince and his friends, and cor finds himself fighting to get the boys back to safety- and following the rules that will keep them alive)

“You think I’d try to modify this?” Prompto squeaks, looking down at the suit incredulously. “I think this is worth more than my house!”
“Just last year, you tore the sleeves off a forty-two-thousand-yen midgardsormr leather jacket,” Ignis says with a severe glare, suppressing a shudder at the memory. “A genuine midgardsormr leather jacket.”
“It looks better without them,” Prompto says in a small voice, and, really, Ignis agrees, it does look better, and he cannot help but appreciate the sight whenever Prompto wears it. Admitting it would be conceding to Prompto’s ongoing war with sleeves, however, and, if there’s one thing Ignis does not do, it’s concede defeat.
