He holds out the cigarette like an offering, and Alex steps into his space and takes it, sliding his fingers along the back of Henry’s hand a touch longer than necessary. He searches Henry’s eyes for an answer to the bold questions burning on the tip of his tongue alongside the smoke. “I’d like that very much.”
“Good.” Henry takes one more drag from the cigarette Alex is still holding, cool fingertips guiding Alex’s hand to his mouth with a light touch. “Let me take you back inside then. I’ll meet you right here after the encore.”
Alex swallows hard. “Can’t wait.”

His train of thought plunges straight off a cliff and into the ocean. Everything is muffled except for a loud ringing in his ears.

“God, don’t you have an off switch?” June groans, laughing as she chucks a piece of popcorn in Alex’s direction while he rambles passionately about the international legal implications of the Red Wedding. “Oh, god, the concussion must be worse than the doctor said it’d be,” he muttered to himself, taking a tiny step back from Alex.

Alex has been hopelessly in love with Henry for the better part of 15 years, but they’re best friends so obviously he can’t say anything.
