Lockwood is trying to avoid thinking about a difficult anniversary while Lucy is trying to deal with some news from home. They're both preoccupied and trying to suss out what's going on with the other as they head into a tricky case. Things go badly wrong, but they get to have some snuggles in the aftermath :)
Also, Lockwood picks some roses with the intention of giving them to Lucy."After that he must have fallen asleep for a bit because when he opened his eyes next, Lucy was leaning over him. His mind still felt foggy and slow, so for a long moment he just assumed he was dreaming, and he let himself stare baldly up at her. The early morning sunlight that brightened the room filtered in through the leaves of the apple tree outside his window, and he watched in fascination as the dappled light flickered over the curve of her cheek and caught in her eyelashes and a few little wisps of curls that had fallen out of place. For a few seconds there was a rare softness in her expression, her lips slightly parted and a little worried line between her eyebrows. Then her gaze met his, and reality came crashing back in. Her eyes widened, and it dawned on him he wasn’t actually dreaming. "

Lily thinks that’s a very apt metaphor for the two of them—he’ll shut a book without care if he loses his place, and she’s got a set of leather bookmarks sitting in a drawer in her room. He’d stolen one from her, a few years ago, but she’s not once seen him use it.
“You said I’m allowed to not like your hair.”
There are some moments that sneak up on you. The profession of James's feelings certainly does so for Lily.

Wow, this has to be one of my favorite post book 7 fics ever. Ginny and Hermione return to Hogwarts in the aftermath of the war. Hogwarts isn't the same, and everyone struggles to come to terms with the post war world. Death Eater trials continue, there's an interesting DADA professor from the DOM who poses philosophical questions, but despite it all, Harry and Ginny work their way towards healing. I also love Ginny's friendship with Hagrid.

“My name is Lucy.” The girl informs him with a hard glare before Kipps can even open his mouth to speak, a soft Northern accent ticking through her words.
This is unusual – Kipps’ crew usually loiter behind him self-righteously but they let their not-so-fearless leader do the talking. Clearly, she is new if she doesn’t know that yet. If Lockwood wasn’t quite so cocksure of himself, the scowl she’s sending him would probably take him down a peg or two.
As it is, he instead becomes instantly fascinated.
