When he finally trots back to the bed, Grian rolls over to face him, already snuggled back under the covers like he never left. His wings tuck him in even more, and his eyes are wide, staring up like Mumbo had done something spectacular by just being there. Mumbo slips into the spot next to him, head-butting him again. Grians soft voice breaks the comfortable silence, as if to speak a message for only his ears.
"Mumbo, your ears look very cute, and I can feel your tail wagging. I'm glad you came to me."

Summary
Burnt out and exhausted with city life, Etho packs up and moves to the old abandoned farm his parents owned before he was born. It's sat empty for thirty years and it's not in a good state, but he's determined to make the most of it.
The town is full of good people, and he quickly finds friendship in abundance. Amongst them all though, one stands out. Bdubs is kind and funny and exceptionally talented at a number of things. He's handsome too, and Etho can't help but crush on him, just a little bit.
They get along fantastically right from day one, but Etho keeps his feelings to himself. It's just a crush, it'll go away. And besides, it's not like Bdubs would ever like him back... Right?

Of course, touching the stars was going to have to wait, because he'd lost that dream the moment his parents had died when he was ten years old—the moment he had watched that starship explosion and felt a bit of his heart die with them. He'd lost that dream when he was transported to prison and then to a place called Pogtopia.
He'd lost that dream when he watched hundreds of children starve on the streets of Pogtopia. When he and two friends become the lone survivors of the Red Planet's Genocide. When they were rescued, and he was captured again.
But maybe—maybe one day, he would regain that dream. Maybe he would hunt down the mass murderer that had executed his friends and gain his revenge—but that day was not now, and now he sat in a prison and stared at the faraway stars.
Perhaps there would be people that he could call family again. People he would see again—people whom he had lost years ago. One day.
