“Is this a sick joke?” Ilya spat out. “You think this is funny?”
Kaprizov hesitated, then shook his head, glancing over at Hughes. “He is… haunted, they say. He can see them. Ghosts.”
Ilya stared. “So he is crazy. Good to know.”
“He’s not crazy!” Faber yelled in his ear. “He really can see them! You get used to it! He means well!”
“Okay, so you are all crazy,” Ilya scoffed. “Whole team of crazies.”
“No, really. He can see them,” Kaprizov repeated. “There must be one with you now. He only get like this if ghost is near.”

Brock and Matt had a... weird tradition. Any time they'd room together, some how they'd end up on a fan work site, reading fanfiction about themselves or their teammates. Just for fun, nothing else.
This trip though, was different. Brock had laid out on Matt’s bed, peeking over his shoulder at his phone screen as Matt pulled up the website and then tapped in his own name. The first work wasn’t them like usual… it was Kirill and Quinn.

Kirill picked up after a few rings, a question immediately coming from his mouth. “Bolds? What you calling for?”
Matt huddled the phone close to his mouth, having to keep his voice low so Quinn couldn’t hear it.
“I thought you’d be bored up there,” he replied. “Thought maybe you’d want something to watch.”

Summary
'Games that matter' is bullshit, obviously, all the games matter. You play games that matter in November and you'll play games that matter in March. If you don't end up playing games that matter in March? Then the games in November didn't matter.
They could both still make playoffs. Matthew makes sure to communicate his optimism.
"Really, it's no big deal. You'll get your confidence back," he says encouragingly.
"Do you ever get tired of being such a little asshole?" Leon seethes.

When you’re dedicated to going unseen, it’s jarring to be noticed. Like someone flipping the lights on when you thought you were safe in the dark. Moving to Minnesota, trading in his C for a regular jersey, Quinn was ready to slip into the background like a movie extra. He didn’t want to be the team; he just wanted to be part of one.
But there is Kirill. Staring at him with an eager smile. His blonde hair sticking to his forehead and curling up around his ears. His cheeks flush. He’s looking so intently at Quinn that it feels like he’s x-raying him.

Summary
Will has a tendency to fall in love with things the way only boys raised on promises of paradise and unbearable guilt can, unknowingly and devastatingly complete.
He sometimes wonders if wanting something can ever be clean, if desire and goodness can ever coexist inside his body. He tells himself that it doesn’t matter anymore, but maybe he’s just learned to lie so convincingly he starts to believe it.
Because the guilt always comes back in the end, it claws at his chest, while the fear settles low in his stomach and panic makes it hard to breathe, and it all just leaves his heart aching like a wound that never heals.
But then there’s Mack, who makes Will want to break every rule he’s ever been taught.

Leon expects a snarky, asshat response from Tkachuk. Instead, he listens to Tkachuk over footage of himself playing with his mouth open in shock.
“I think he’s a great player.” Tkachuk tells the interviewer. “I think he’s, uh, having a great year. I think both of them together is a really great one-two punch, but as for the other question I probably can’t answer that, though, he’ll get mad at me.”

Summary
Maybe with Kevin away in Rockford, Connor can get his feelings under control. At the very least, he doesn’t have to worry about facing them, confronting them, doing anything about them. Because what’s he really going to do - call Kevin and tell him that he misses him? That every day he walks into practice and Kevin isn’t in the locker room he feels the pit of sadness in his stomach expand a little wider? That at the start of every game when he’s skating during warmups, and he doesn’t have Kevin to spin off of into the boards, it makes his heart ache in such an intense way he has to stop for a moment because it feels like a physical pain piercing his chest?
That nothing is the same, and everything feels so much worse without him?
[Set between April and December 2024, Kevin gets assigned to the AHL out of training camp, only to get recalled by the Blackhawks months later. Which would be completely and wholeheartedly amazing - if Connor hadn't almost kissed him the last night of their rookie season.]

Summary
The next day, Connor works out at the gym. He skates for over an hour. He texts Dr. Terry and Kyle that he’s good to rejoin the team once they start practicing again after the All-Star break. He tries to cram as much protein as he can into his (essentially entirely liquid) diet to keep his weight up. He pulls the sheets up on his bed, showers, throws on a load of laundry, and talks to his mom and tells her that he’s fine.
He thinks about Kevin.
And he watches the Blackhawks lose.
So basically - just a routine, typical day in Connor’s life at this point.
[Set in January / February 2024, Connor Bedard fractures his jaw, begs the team doctor to clear him to return to play, and realizes his feelings for his teammate. Sort of, but not necessarily in that order.]

Summary
“Here.” Will says, unsure what makes him think of it, and he thrusts his hand out in front of Macklin’s face. Mack looks confused, at first, and then it’s like he gains abrupt clarity, because he grabs the proffered arm with both hands reverently, tightly. He pulls it to his mouth and lets Will’s muscle and sinew coated in hot skin part his lips as he presses his sealed mouth against him. Will wants to prompt him, to yell ‘bite down, damnit!’ but as his patience runs out, Mack opens his jaws and sinks his teeth in, in, in. It’s not the light nips he’s taken before, not the playful way he’s dined on Will in the past. This is a real bite, a genuinely painful and sharp sensation deep in the tissue and muscle lining Will’s arm.
—
Macklin has a biting thing. Then he just plain has a thing for Will. Will is amenable.
