“Rei-papa,” Miri said, pointing her little finger at him, “If you are scared, we can hold hands.” Then she extended her palm over him, and smiled widely.
Rei noticed the other children laughing at panicked Kazuki as the rollercoaster cart started to move faster and, sooner than later, Miri joined them, roaring with laughter and holding her stomach while pointing her finger at Kazuki, "Kazuki-papa is scared!"
And Rei didn't know what came over him, perhaps it was how giddy and light he felt, or the rush of adrenaline still on his veins, but he blurted through a smirk, "I can hold your hand if you are scared."

as rei's been having issues with being present, kazuki and miri take matters into their own hands and have a family day.

Summary

Summary
When Rei could finally focus on Kazuki’s face, he noticed a line forming between his brows as he stared at him with a questioning look, waiting for an answer. However, by the way Kazuki’s eyes pierced through him, warm brown and fondness he never thought he could be the recipient of, Rei knew there hid an underlying question veiled with his partner’s expression: are you okay?
Rei still had a hard time adjusting to the fact that somebody cared about him beyond his abilities to assassinate others. Of course, he knew Kazuki valued his skills too (they were partners for a reason), but he wasn’t prepared to be looked after as a human being.

He prides himself on being intentional in all he does. The mug he chooses to pour his tea in, the route he takes to court, every word he says behind the stand - everything is calculated meticulously. Miles Edgeworth doesn't do accidents.
Until he does.

To celebrate Miri's recent graduation from daycare, Kazuki plans a vacation - their first as a family - to Okinawa in hopes of introducing Miri and Rei to the simple joys of sun, sand, and salt water. During a fun day at the beach with the ocean spread out wide before them, he and Rei open up to each other about their thoughts towards their future as a family.

The boss wants me to go back,
Rei’s note says and, somehow, Kazuki knows that’s not a new development, that the boss probably told Rei to come back at least since his birthday, he just failed to tell Kazuki anything about it.
I’m sorry we couldn’t change.
Goodbye.
Kazuki crumbles the note and throws it away, not even trying to fight back the tears streaming down his face. Of course he’d leave now, he thinks bitterly, of course he’d choose now to go back.

I knew you were a romantic, but this is just ridiculous,” Rei spits, crossing the floor to lean into Kazuki’s face. “If your soulmate is alive, they probably just want you to quit writing to them! How unlucky for them that you never could take a fucking hint!”
