“You wouldn’t be trusting me,” he said, lips curling faintly. “You’d be controlling me. Owning me. Don’t tell me that’s not appealing to you. We’re both beyond petty denials.”
She studied him—every inch of the strained muscles, the fevered eyes, the chains dug into brick. He was desperate, despite all the bravado. That much was obvious. She could smell the tang of his fear hanging in the air like pheromones. He truly was at his last grasp of sanity; a Hyde without a master was only madness driven inwards, layers upon layers of insanity folding in upon itself like a slow-acting implosion. He had no chance at ever being normal, but that didn’t mean she had to leash the beast instead of slay it.
“Say it,” Wednesday declared.
Tyler’s head tilted. “Why?”
“Because I want to hear if you mean it.”
The corner of his mouth twitched. “You want obedience, or proof?”
“Both.”

“Don't know what you mean," she lies.
He pulls back and runs his thumb along the jagged depressions of skin. “They're from the bridge, aren't they?” That was the last time he'd seen her after all; unconscious at his feet after that explosion on that Godforsaken bridge.

When Wednesday woke up that morning, it took her precisely five seconds to realise exactly where she was. In a vaguely familiar room, scented with sandalwood and fresh pine, wrapped up in clean linen sheets that definitely were not her own. A sunken mattress, softer than she was used to. The distant ticking of an alarm clock that definitely did not belong to her. And there was an arm draped across her waist, firm and defined, and unfortunately - she knew just who it belonged to. And that was when the panic set in.

There's only three constants when it comes to Jinx:
1. She never leaves anything behind.
2. She never visits two nights in a row.
3. She never stays into the morning.Ekko was used to this. Fine with it. If it meant that at least some nights he could hold her, know she was fine, he could deal with it. Even if he wanted more. So much more.
But when Jinx starts breaking each rule, one by one, Ekko realizes that what they have is not enough. But he's too much of a coward to ask for more. And it's ruining his life.
