Peter has been staring out of his window for too long. She feels itchy in a way that is not from the heat, impatient for results to her inquiries. She doesn’t give people time to consider, demands answers and actions with an immediate effect.
But Peter has always been an exception to her rules. An outlier. An anomaly.
“What is the proposition?”
She almost flinches, so used to his silence that she was many pages into one of his books. Her posture straightens, dark eyes alight with excitement. “Are you interested?”
“No.” Peter turns, considers her sitting before him, the first hints of a setting sun golden on his skin. “But you risked a lot to come here, and despite our disagreements, you are… a dear friend to me. The least I can do is listen.”
“Very well.” She rearranges her skirts, ticking over into business mode. When she lifts her head to regard him once more, it’s with the cold and calculating gaze of the Queen of Nassau. “I have credible information regarding the largest treasure galleon since the Urca, and I would like you to lead the hunt.”

“Peter!” Ned interrupts him, nervous and on edge. “There’s uh, there’s been an unexpected development.”
He frowns. “Development? What do you mean?”
Before he has the chance to respond, a figure leans around Ned with a coy smirk, two bags at her feet, her eyes still sparkling with humour like when they were children.
“Hey, Peter.”
His upper lip curls in objection to even having to say her name. “Hello, Michelle.”
