Summary
When Shinjiro reaches for his chest, he feels the weight of his own hand against his sternum. He can feel his heart beating, a little fast, beneath his ribcage. Everything is by all rights where it ought to be.
Which isn’t how it ought to be.
“What the hell is going on?” Shinjiro redirects his attention to his leader. Yuki fidgets with the piece of his hair that obscures one of his eyes. He’s contemplative, not that he ever makes it easy to tell. Shinjiro waits as long as he can bear for Yuki to come up with an answer, which isn’t very long at all; within a few moments, he’s rephrasing his question to get to the heart of the matter. “Why am I alive?”
“...It’s complicated,” Yuki says at last. “Sanada-senpai… intervened.” He frowns, the hand he’d been using to fidget uncurling so his hair falls back over his cheek. The hand itself then drops to his lap. “It was… a last resort, so you shouldn’t be angry at him.”
