Summary
There’s a scar tucked in between Sanji’s fingers, a jagged rope of shiny white tissue that puckers up from the skin. It begins at his palm and extends up past the second knuckle of his ring finger, tapering off right as it reaches the nail. Even at a distance Zoro can tell it’s not the kind of scar left behind by the neat, clean slice of a blade. Something punctured through flesh and muscle and tore, leaving the skin raw and tattered, twisting in on itself as it healed.
Little by little, Zoro and Sanji learn more about one another. A series of interconnected oneshots.

Summary
He thinks —he thinks he may have dreamt that he was starving.
He had been stranded and alone, sitting on a rock that towered high above the water with nothing but a dwindling sack of moldy food. The finer details seem to blur when Zoro tries to concentrate on them, but certain images linger, flashing across the backs of his eyelids like old photographs —the dull edge of a salt-stained knife and a spatter of blood across stone, the endless stretch of the grey horizon above an empty sea.
After a chance encounter with an old acquaintance, Zoro begins having strange dreams.
Oddly enough, so does Sanji.

Summary
“I don’t dream,” Wolfwood said, lifting one shoulder in a shrug.
Meryl drummed her fingers against the steering wheel, her sharp eyes meeting Vash’s through the glass of the rearview mirror.
Wolfwood rarely talked in his sleep, but sometimes his lips moved, forming the shape of words like stop and don’t and please. His long lashes would flutter over the high arch of his cheekbones as he shivered and twitched, knees pulled up towards his chest like he was trying to make himself small. Vash had reached for him, once, fingertips barely skimming across the line of Wolfwood’s arm before he bolted upright, the whites of his eyes flashing wildly in the dark.
Vash and Meryl try to bring Wolfwood in from the cold. Told in seven parts.

Summary
He wanted to look down at Vash’s prosthetic hand resting on the seat between them, already imagining the soft curl of his glass-like fingers, the invitation of an upturned palm. He wouldn’t reach out, but he liked entertaining the thought that he could, wondering if Vash’s hand would be smooth against his own, if it would be warm or cold.
He wanted to look, just look –but he couldn’t open his eyes.
After being kidnapped by bounty hunters and stranded in the desert, Wolfwood, Vash, and Meryl are left to rely on each other.
Or: Wolfwood contends with guilt and forgiveness and doesn't know how to have friends.

Summary
Shiro cracks open his eyes. Keith catches a glimpse of colour―deep, coppery brown, rich and warm―and it makes him want to cup Shiro’s face between his hands, to tip up his head until they’re looking at each other properly and Keith can take his time categorizing every little thing that’s changed about him. In Keith’s mind Shiro still exists as a fixed point, with dark hair and unmarked skin, a wide smile that grew rare and ceremonious after his capture. Keith needs to unwind that image, let it linger in memory but fade in the light of what Shiro has become. It’s not fair to either of them, otherwise.
Shiro wakes and sleeps and wakes again. Keith tries to come to terms with everything that's happened, but even a grief long past demands to be felt.

Summary
Lance’s head whips up, his shoulders rolling back as his spine straightens, standing at attention like he’s a fresh-faced cadet snapping off a salute to Iverson for the first time. Pidge and Hunk share a look, eyebrows raised with their lips pressed flat, amused or bewildered by Lance’s reaction, but Shiro makes a sound, metal knuckles pressed against the curve of his mouth, ducking his head as Lance sputters and asks the alien to repeat himself.
“You probably shouldn’t get your hopes up,” Hunk says, stage-whispering behind his hand as their escort leads them out of the citadel. “We don’t know what their definition of a beach is.”
Lance reflects on his changing relationship with Shiro, understanding both a little more and a lot less than he realizes.

Summary
You cannot have them, the alien says again. They are not yours.
Shiro dares to lift his eyes, pushing past the new wave of nausea that rises up when he forces himself to look at the alien’s horrible, twisted face. “They’re not yours, either.”
Existing outside the laws of reality, an alien takes the paladins hostage when they inadvertently stumble into their realm. Shiro makes a deal to win the others back, agreeing to walk to the ends of the creature’s domain, unaware of the trials he'll be faced with along the way. The terms are simple: if he succeeds he may take whatever he wishes, but if he refuses to go on or can be tempted into looking back, his friends will vanish and be lost to him forever. [Inspired by the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice.]

Summary
Shiro blinks and sees a black sun reflected on dark water, his own fingers wrapped tightly around his lion’s controls. Constellations spin overhead and a view screen flickers in front of his eyes, the images blending together like a poorly exposed photograph. There’s a sharp pull deep within his chest, a hook slipping in between two ribs that catches when it tries to lift free.
Shiro becomes unfixed in space and time after vanishing from the Black Lion, slipping between alternate versions of his life. The paladins try to bring him back, but their interference could be causing more harm than good.

Summary
Shiro walks away from his confrontation with Haggar injured and shaken. After falling through the corrupted wormhole and finding himself stranded alongside Keith on a solitary planet, Shiro begins doubting his bond with the black lion and his place among the other paladins. As the team is reunited and his health continues to decline, Shiro is forced to confront parts of himself he thought were long buried, and everyone is left questioning just how far he’s willing to go in order to survive.

Summary
Sendak steps closer and Shiro thinks about statistics —the insurmountable odds against Sendak being discovered in the void of space, the passing ship being Galra and not some scavenger. Pidge or Hunk could probably devise some kind of equation to highlight the absurdity of it, lay out in a spectacular display of numbers just how bad Shiro’s luck really is.
Or: captured by the Galra and awaiting rescue, Shiro's forced to confront who he was, how he's changed, and what that means about the person he's become.
