‘Whose coffee machine did Richie steal?’ she says, downing half the small cup while it’s still alive and fresh.
‘Hey, we’re a reputable establishment now, my Italian heritage dictates I treat my sous to a fresh espresso in the morning,’ he smiles and leans against the counter.
She gives him a non-impressed look and he smiles.‘Cicero dropped it off as a present for the opening,’ he laughs and she laughs too.
‘Please don’t let Richie use it,’ she says, finishing her cup.
‘It’s hidden in my office. Just for you and me,’ he whispers, emphasizing this huge secret between them and she enjoys how close he leans in.

A lighthearted jab.
A botched job.
He's seen men broken over more, torn apart for less - really, it's a hazard of the occupation. Point is, at the end of the day, Will Gorski's thought about what it would take to push him over. He's thought about it a lot. More than he should have - more than anyone really should - so he should be prepared for this.
He should be, but he's not, because he never prepared himself for this particular undoing.
