Plenty of people don’t seem to get it, and that’s fine. All they see is what Oscar manages to show the world, barely anything cracking through unless he can’t help it. They think he’s calm, collected, doesn’t have to deal with these pesky emotions on a regular basis.

This must be what Elio sent him here to chase. But—to what end? For him to stop Jing Yuan, or follow him?
“…To where?” Blade asks. “To do what?”
“Why do you want to know, hmm?”
Blade’s head hurts. It has been a long time since those eyes looked at him with anything other than cold neutrality—as if the only place he knows Blade from is truly only the print of his wanted posters.
“I need to come with you,” Blade grits out, an admission that tastes as shameful as a plea on his tongue. “To find what I really seek. To find an end to… to this.”
As per the terms of their deal, Elio gives Blade the solution to finally obtaining the eternal slumber that he's been chasing ever since he woke up in a body that was more weapon than man, eight hundred years ago. Much to his dismay, it involves him, Jing Yuan, a ship, and a journey across the galaxies.

When Killjoy glances over, it’s to the sight of Cypher leaning back in his chair to look up at Omen, one arm resting on the backrest as he flips a tripwire between his fingers, saying something. Though the mask obscures his face, Killjoy can tell that he's smiling.
Omen’s response is to tug at his hood, the jagged slashes on his face flickering and dimming slightly. Despite his lack of expressive facial features, he somehow manages to look startled when Cypher reaches forward to tap one gloved finger over the blue center of his chestplate. Yet he doesn’t push Cypher's hand away. Instead he simply catches him by the wrist, holding him there, and inclines his head in a way that seems almost like a challenge even from this distance, even though she has no idea what they're talking about.
Oh, Killjoy realizes, having pulled up to a very shocking conclusion.
That’s what this is.
Oh.
It is by an ironic twist of fate that the only person in the entire protocol that doesn’t realize Omen is flirting with Cypher is, in fact, Cypher himself.

Even the visitor’s voice carries a familiar ring, and his tone is seven parts impatience, three parts resignation.
“Are you still not fully conscious? It’s already nearly evening, yet you never seem to know that you can rest in your own home just as well.” The artisan of seven hundred years past rests his hand on his forehead and sighs. Light from the doorway pours over his form and streams through his thousand silver strands, which are all pinned up neatly with a hair stick. In this time, his lavender eyes are still sparkling and lively. Bright.
The moment Jing Yuan passes out after the battle against Phantylia, he thinks it's not too much to ask for a man to get some peace and quiet in the Alchemy Commission's medical ward. Unfortunately, when he wakes to find himself face to face with the ghost of an old friend, he finds that his trials are still far from over.
