He had been warned to stay away from humans. His parents were raised believing if a human caught you they'd eat you, and he was raised under the same belief. When he had found this cove and this rock, there was no sign of human life around it whatsoever— not like the beach a few miles down, lined with docks and a long pier that stretched into the sea. All merfolk knew to stay away from there.
Here, Satomi thought he had been safe.

Aziraphale wasn’t an idiot. He knew Crowley enjoyed James Bond and botany and old cars. There were so many wonderful novels on these topics—Crowley really ought to try reading once and a while. (He could definitely learn to enjoy his hobbies and interests even better if he dug his nose into a book every now and then!)
Aziraphale had to wonder, why wouldn’t he read?
No matter. If he didn’t want to read, Aziraphale would collect books for him. Just in case he wanted to.
