The war drags. In between learning of Cody's flaunting of regs for Kenobi and accidentally bonding his heartbeat to his Commander's, Rex can't figure out what to do with himself when he has no choice but to lay his armor down.

She smushes her ice cream, cone and all, into his hair. Jess yells, half-laughter half-indignation, and does the same right back to her, melted vanilla running sticky down her neck and shoulders. She screeches like a banshee, smacking and shoving at him until she accidentally—honest to God hand on Bible accidentally, she truly didn't mean to do it—pushes him into the lake, where he lands with a splash and resurfaces soaking wet, his sweater sticking to the defined muscles of his arms. Jess, never one to be outdone, grabs her ankle and yanks her down with him, despite her shrieked insincere apologies.
Who would've thought, ten years ago when she first heard Luke on the phone with him, that they would end up here?
rory and jess, three times over a decade. (it takes a while, but it eventually sticks.)

Summary
Originally a standalone fic, the first installment has now spawned a trilogy because I've lost control of my life! Part 1 is a season 4 era slow burn; parts 2 and 3 explore AU versions of s5 and s6, respectively, where spuffy are in an established relationship throughout.
Parts 2 and 3 are planned/mostly written! Other fics in this universe, including missing scenes, bonus content, and possibly an AU s7 (but don't hold me to it) may be to come.
