His parents are gonna freak out and threaten to exile him to some fancy tutoring camp over Christmas if he can’t convince them that his slipping grades are a one-time thing, nothing to worry about.
And then he sees Billy walking in as he's paying.
“Yo, Stevie, can’t get enough of me during school? Gotta stalk me?” Billy has this way of rolling his name when he says it, like his tongue wraps around it and flicks it off, and Steve wants to kill him.
Steve’s shoulders go tight. He counts out his change and drops it on the counter. “Not stalking you, man. Just a small town.”
“Not that small.”

“Alright.” He doesn’t know what the going rate is, and doesn’t care. $300 to be delivered safely back to his hotel, comforted, and given a good night’s sleep seems like a fine price to him. “What’s your name?”
“What for? You’re not writing me a check.”
Obi-Wan smiles wryly. “I keep calling you ‘kid’ in my head. I’m starting to feel like a bad old man.”
There’s a long-suffering sigh that Obi-Wan feels with his entire body, and then a reluctant, “Anakin.”

But this is better, maybe? It’s not frenzied. It doesn’t tear at his guts. There’s no scramble of half-ashamed resentment, of stale air filled with their panting, frustrated and wanting more. Always left unsatisfied. That was fun in its own way, but also miserable.
This is not that. It’s artless and casual, and Jon is on the couch with him, taking a nap, hugging Tim’s arm and drooling a little out of the corner of his mouth. Like usual there’s nothing good on the telly, the meaningless static of cheap syndication, but Tim doesn’t mind because he doesn’t want to move anyway.
