“Little liar, you’re speaking all slurred,”
“I ain’t,” Johnny insists but accepts the way Gyro flicks his hat off and ruffles the mussed hair on his crown so tenderly, “So stop buggin’ me ‘bout it.”

The questions hurt his brain - he couldn't decide what to focus on. Which question would James think was more useful? Which one did he want Sirius to answer? Probably all of them, if he had asked them all. But he couldn't give all the answers right now, so which question did James want answering the most?
"I'm-," Sirius decided to pick the easiest question, the one with the simplest answer, "I'm in the bathroom."
"The bathroom?" Came James' quick reply. He was moving. Pacing, most likely. James did that when he was nervous or restless. Sirius ached to think of how many times he had caused that. "Why are you in the bathroom?"
"I did something bad, Jamie."
Or, where Sirius messes up, but he reaches out in time.

Nobody has seen him at his worst, in those terrible moments when he’s out of control and loses himself and isn’t presenting that façade that everyone seems to want and has stuck around and still looked at him like that before. And his heart hurts with how much gratitude and affection and love he feels for Robert.
And that scares Jimmy so fucking much. Because he absolutely cannot go falling in love with his bandmate. He cannot do this because it is only going to set Jimmy up for hurt. And the rational part of him knows that. The rational part knows that he’s already let himself get too attached and let down too many of his protective walls and let Robert get too close to him. He’s let himself get to the point where he needs Robert. And he knows that the only way this could end is excruciating hurt.

“Wait.” Louis’ hand shoots out to grab his wrist, sending a shiver down Lestat’s spine. It’s the most they’ve touched in years, and his hand clenches in anticipation as he waits for Louis to continue. “Will you tell me more about your past?”
Lestat hesitates. It’s not that he wants to hide anything from Louis, fuelling suspicions that he’s deliberately keeping things from him, but there are memories that are too painful to remember, much less to be spoken out loud. Promises made to keep his knowledge to himself lest he starts a chain reaction of devastating events.
“Please,” Louis says, and his eyes seem to beg for something. “I want to know you. All of you. Will you help me understand?”
