"Hey, you’ve reached Conner Kent!" Conner’s voice blared out of the speaker, incredibly loud in the soulless alley, completely bursting with that familiar, obnoxious, indestructible energy that Tim loved and feared in equal measure. "Leave a message after the beep... or honestly, just yell loud enough, I've got some, uh, super hearing! So, I might pick it up anyway if I'm in the zip code. Peace!"
A loud, electronic BEEP echoed through the line, followed by the dead hiss of open recording static.
He forced his swollen, ruined mouth to move, the broken shards of his bicuspid clicking painfully against his tongue.
"Fuck this," Tim whispered.
The words were barely a breath, a wet, gravelly scratch that cut through the static before his fingers lost their grip entirely. The phone slipped from his hand, landing with a tiny splash into the reddish puddle beside him. The screen stayed bright for a few seconds, illuminating the words Recording... before the water seeped through the cracks and the display flickered out into total darkness.
Only five words remained drifting through his mind...
I need a fucking cigarette.

Summary
The tobacco caught instantly, a dim, diesel flower blooming in the dark.
Tim pulled the warmth deep into his throat with all his might, letting the asphalt fumes tickle the back of his mouth until the smell of the ground was briefly gone. He leaned forward, his gnarled fingers catching the front of Conner’s jaw with a rigid, desperate firmness. His thumb pressed directly against the yellowed, bruised seam near Conner’s chin, holding his mouth open. Tim leaned in more, pressing their lips together and opened his mouth, blowing the unrefined plume directly into Conner’s throat.
The heavy, vinyl-scented cloud moved from one set of lungs to the other. Tim reached up his free hand to hold the back of Conner's head, grabbing his hair and gently pulling. Conner didn't move, swallowing the smoke willingly this time, his Kryptonian throat burning with the acrid, stale heat of the tobacco. The nicotine sat at the back of his mouth, familiar and completely necessary, and for one perfect second, he could taste the lemon and cinnamon of the Kansas sunsets, but he could also taste the salt water, the chemical indicator dye, and the dark, gelatinous blood from Tim’s split lips.

Summary
Conner Kent dies with Tim Drake’s name still dawdling in his mouth.
After that, the world keeps ending in smaller ways.
Tim starts stealing from Cadmus. Bruce starts looking at him like he’s an active bomb. Dick tries to pull him back towards earth. Somewhere between grief and devotion and something unbearably close to love, Tim decides death is a problem that can and will be solved.
