Tim had largely kept to himself with every attempt to talk to people seemingly met with stares like the boy had grown another head; and so, Bernard took pity on the young Tim Drake. Throwing his arm around the boy with a smile and convoluted speech that made Tim smirk and shoot a comment back just as coy.
They’ve gotten close in a way that makes Bernard feel like maybe he truly does deserve better than his parents… but if he has to sit through another six hour Wizards & Warlocks game then he might just start crying.

The knock at the front door was unexpected. Tim froze. He checked his phone, nothing was getting delivered and no one was suppose to show up. Mrs. Mac was just there a few days ago after her usual delivery of groceries and light cleaning. ... He slowly padded his way to the door, taking every step ever so softly hoping whoever it was would go away. Then the knock came again, more rapid this time.
Tim might’ve been a little sleep deprived, his hair was sticking up all over his head, and he wasn’t thinking as he swung open the door to reveal Selina Kyle standing on the other side.

The only thing worse than crawling out of your own grave to find your father had replaced you with the first black haired, blue eyed preteen he could find, is said replacement begging you to sign emergency foster papers... except maybe you signing said papers and having to learn how to be a parent on the fly... Fuck it, he couldn't do any worse than Bruce.
