"I'm glad I went," Mike murmurs near Will's ear.
"Had fun?" Will asks playfully.
"Oh, yeah," Mike stretches sarcastically.
They stay like that for a little longer than necessary, then reluctantly separate, still looking at each other. Will can't hold the eye contact for long, and turns away, biting down a smirk.
"Goodnight, then," he breathes out.
"Yeah. Goodnight," Mike nods nervously and smiles. That same stupid dorky smile.
OR
The Party has one last fun summer together before moving away, everyone is alive and happy and in love and stupid.

Summary
"Max?" Jane whispers tenderly. The secrecy afforded to them by darkness suddenlt no longer feels protective, making way instead of unfettered vulnerability. If Max reached out and tickled Jane right now, in those same soft spots between her ribs and her hipbones, Jane cannot be sure that she would not cry.
"Yeah?" Max is facing her, Jane realizes when she feels Max's breath on her nose.
"You have taught me many things today," Jane exhales, feet still swishing under the blanket in rhythmic innocence. "And still, it feels like the biggest thing I learned is that are so many more things I do not know."
Jane asks Max to teach her one more thing, and they both end up learning more than expected.

Summary

Lucas hasn’t cried since that night.
He’s not even sure if he cried that night. It’s just a terrified haze when he looks back on it now. All he remembers is the way the blood rolled down Max’s cheeks like tears. Sometimes it’s all he can see when he looks at her.
There’s no room for him to cry. Not with the weekly crawls. Not with the daily necessity to keep Dustin from getting himself killed. Not with Max lying lifeless in a hospital bed.

Robin takes a deep breath, debating whether to lead with Nancy’s curly hair or her dazzling white smile. She chooses to settle on scent, as it was the most powerful of the senses, and Max probably didn’t know what Nancy smelled like anyway.
“Well, she smelled a little bit like sweat, and sweet perfume, with a touch of gunpowder mixed in—”
Max’s eyes flew open in surprise. “You kissed Nancy fucking Wheeler?”

Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed. Even old friendships from high school, even past judgements. Even the feelings Nancy thinks are just a mild irritation towards that weird girl who dropped sulfuric acid on her pure cotton sweater. It can’t be love, can it? Just a very addictive dopamine surge every time Robin touches her hand. That’s all.
