Summary
Fourteen day shifts that Mel and Frank share after he returns to work.
He instinctively looked for a braid and scrub pants, the only fit he'd ever seen her in. It took his brain a hot second to realise the woman in jeans, white sneakers, and a ponytail through her snapback was actually Mel.
At which point he walked full tilt into a wall.

He ashed the cigarette as she grasped for the magic words that would fix this.
“Someone told me once that we need sensitive people.”
He didn’t stop crying, but at least he laughed. “That’s cruel, Mel. My own medicine.”
So, she offered up a second dose: “Would you like a hug?”
A sob cracked through. “Yeah, I really would.”

Bookmarker's Notes
Now, Frank was so solid on top of her, it was like he was making her solid too — rebuilding her touch by touch. For a few years there, she’d felt like anyone reaching for her would just pass right through; like she was a person-shaped outline with her insides all erased out. But the weight of him — warm, sweat-slick, slotted between her thighs — made it hard to remember.

Summary
Something clattered in the bathroom. Everything inside of Mel went very, very still.
Santos looked at the shut door. She processed.
“Mel King, you dirty dog.” A slow grin stretched over her face. “Did you hook up with someone last night?”(The gang goes to a medical conference.)

Bookmarker's Notes
I felt a deep sense of foreboding reading this story, though it is ultimately a hopeful glimpse at their dynamics
I reach across the counter to his grease filled, death beckoning limp hand hovering above the bowl and stop him from picking at nothing.
“It’s good. It’s what I needed” He meets my look with half-lids, not willing to believe me, just yet. “Thanks.” He nods his head, bites his bottom lip and looks down at the bowl, at our hands dangling precariously above the cushioning of soggy, butter filled popcorn. And down he shoves, smiling wickedly while I squirm.
Maybe that’s why I wanted him here. To force my hand.

I don’t tell anyone else until two weeks before I leave for two reasons: one, I get teary-eyed enough on my own while packing without everyone else choking up every time they see me, and two, I don’t want Teddy to think I’m moving because of him, even though I sort of am.

“So let’s just do it. Let’s just ... quit.”
He widens his eyes. “Sunshine, I think you’ve just invented the cure to addiction. We should just stop wanting to smoke! How come I didn’t think of that?”
“Fuck off,” I say. “Bitchy isn’t a good look on you.”
“Everything’s a good look on me,” he says, catching the tip of his tongue between his teeth and giving me a come-hither stare.
I refuse to take the bait. For now, anyway. “What I mean is, we should stop with all the halfway shit, the gum, the patches.” And the secret early-morning runs to the corner store for a pack of Newports (me) or Marlboros (him), to be half-smoked and then thrown out in a fit of guilt (me) or chain-smoked in a club backroom in a fit of self-loathing (him), but we both pretend we don’t know about those.

“Buffy?”
He almost never used to call her Buffy. Did he? Always Slayer, or pet, or love. Or like, he’d use her name, but it always sounded odd, in his mouth. All tender, touchy. Like, like he was making eye contact with her, just by saying it.
"Spike."
She wonders if it feels the same, for him. His name, her tongue.

Summary
“Yes, Lord Stark has come to town to help his mother bring out his eldest sister,” Tyrion said, pouring Jaime a glass of wine. “I understand he also plans to take his seat in the House of the Law. His uncle Edmure has been gathering time for him to give his maiden speech.”
“Yes, yes,” Jaime said irritably. “That’s not what matters and you know it. Well?”
Tyrion sighed. “He's nineteen, well-favored, and as far as I know, neither demented nor stupid. And not a hint of a betrothal. Sorry.”
