The sentence lands so casually. Deceptively small in Jabber's hurricane.
But there's something about it, some sobering truth, that has Zanka's hand pausing mid-wrap before he's even realized it.
My mama used to say.
Because, and this probably makes Zanka a bad person in some philosophical sense…
Zanka has never once considered the possibility of Jabber having parents.

Summary
When Riyo had found out that Zanka had a boyfriend, she'd done her best to be supportive.
She just didn't expect the guy to end up being Jabber fucking Wonger.
At least she wasn't the only one caught off guard. After some negotiations, Zanka is grounded, forbidden from seeing Jabber for a whole month. Which goes about as well as one would expect it too. Meaning that it'd failed horribly.
But that was the least of Riyo's worries. Really, her main concern was figuring out how to handle this whole thing- what she was supposed to do, how she was supposed to react, she had nothing. She was missing way too much information, and it was really starting to bug her. For one, she has no idea what Jabber's actual intentions are with all this. And how could she know, when there seemed to be such a big gap between the Jabber she knew of and the one that Zanka apparently knew?
So when Jabber randomly shows up at her window, asking for advice, Riyo sees it for the golden opportunity that it is.
She'd get her information, keeping her guard up the whole time, and be right back where she wanted to be. Easy.
(Spoiler Alert: It ends up being a bit more complicated than that.)

Summary
Rudo knew, after Regto, there was no place in the world for him. Nothing he could ever do would make him from the Ground, and it was hard to accept how even more alien he felt on the Ground compared to the Sphere. It was all new and anxiety inducing to try and fit in, try to be anything but himself. But maybe he isn't so alone in that regard?

[NON-FICTION FANWORK] Dungeon Meshi is full of vivid and complex world-building. When you take all the information in the manga as a whole, there are clear and consistent patterns in what real world cultures the author was inspired by, and how she arranges them on the Dungeon Meshi world map.
In this essay, I will catalog and explain every real world cultural reference I was able to identify in the manga, including character and location names, historical and mythological references, clothing, and of course food!
WARNING: This essay is full of spoilers for the entire Dungeon Meshi manga, all the extra materials, and the anime. Disturbing and violent moments that happen in the series are described, discussed and analyzed. The essay also discusses real-life world history and mythology, which contains sensitive subjects like war, death, slavery, abortion, child killing, sexual assault, incest, and bestiality. These topics are mentioned in an academic context, and not described. Please proceed with caution if this concerns you.

Neither say anything for a long moment. The street lamps flicker in the darkness and Rudo can see moths flock to their dying lights. If moths managed to survive down here, maybe fireflies did as well.
They weren’t stars, but they were the closest thing to them that Rudo could give Amo.
Stars aren’t visible from the Ground. Rudo finds them elsewhere.

Blazer’s frown matched his. “Punch Up, we just talked about forgiveness.”

After the battle against the Red Ring, Punch Up is second guessing his choice to advocate for Coupé be released. Thinking about her makes him nauseous, talking about her makes his tongue heavy, and for the first time since Robert cut her, Punch Up thinks the rose tinted glasses are slipping.

Summary
There’s a simple note on Susie’s desk, one that’s covered in her messy, messy scrawl – it’s a type of handwriting that’s so jagged and unique that Kris is half-convinced it’s been the same ever since she was about six years old.
They don’t get enough time to register the words that have been written, though, before Susie’s deviously reaching over her desk – arm stretched out and headed for Kris’ set of stationery that’s been spread out across their table. She’s first able to grab the pencil – which causes the devious smile on her cheeks to spread even wider.
Then, almost immediately, as if she had already had it prepared, another note’s thrown onto their desk. They scan their eyes over it, peering out from underneath furrowed eyebrows.
‘U snooze u lose L.’
