The Avatar is gone.
Katara was taken by the Southern Raids at only 14 years old and brought to the Fire Nation capital, where she was forced to become a sex worker in the capital's Red Houses.
At 17, she's sold to the top House: The Red Flame, where girls serve only the elite, including Royalty.
Growing up in this world, Katara has learned to keep her head down and do what's needed to survive.
That is, until two years later, when she is 19 and meets the recently un-banished Fire Prince, notorious for his short temper and closed-off nature.

Summary
The story takes place five years after the original events of ATLA.
What would happen if Aang breaks out of the iceberg five years later? How would the world look, and more importantly how would the characters change?
21 year old Zuko has been out at sea for the last six years, since his banishment. One day he sees a clear blue light near the South Pole. Naturally he investigates, not in the hopes of regaining his honour. That is something that he lost hope of long ago, instead he does it for the sake of his crew of misfits. Little does he know that the strange blue light is about to rock his fucking world upside down.

The sages look up at her warily as she breezes through the doors, but one offers her a cup of tea and a smile. "Good morning, Majesty," he murmurs.
Katara blinks. "Um, just Katara is fine."
The sages mutter, and she lifts an eyebrow. "You are the Fire Lord's wife," a very old and very wrinkly sage sniffs.
They've decided, then, and Katara releases a breath she hadn't known she'd been holding. "Yes," she agrees. "I am."

“We’re in the middle of the desert, waterbender. So you might have that barrel, but once it’s gone, what do you have?” Zuko moved forward, into her personal space. She was shorter than him, and he was using his height deliberately to glare down at her, but Katara didn’t back down. He could feel the sun soaking into him – his power was strongest while she was at her weakest, and for a moment he wished she would start something so that he could beat her in a fight. “I can make fire anywhere, and you might get one shot in, but then I am going to make you burn.”
The moment dragged out.
They were glaring.
Still glaring.
This was the point where the girl would usually be flying away on a bison and he’d be covered in perfume or something.
Something shifted in her expression, and Zuko started fully processing what he had just said, and how it could perhaps have been phrased a little—Her voice was completely flat. “Make. Me. Burn.” Her mouth tugged, started widening into a sly smile.
His stomach dropped. Oh no. “I meant it like—“
