Mickey snickers, but he keeps his eyes trained on his plate as he scoops up the last forkful of lasagna. “I thought you liked that Valentine’s Day crap.”
Ian shrugs. “I do, but…” He shakes his head. “Not like that.”
Mickey’s voice is soft when he asks, “Then like what?”
Ian’s features relax, and a soft smile tugs at his lips. “Like this,” he says quietly, reaching out and setting his hand on Mickey’s forearm. “Dinner, just us. House to ourselves.”
Mickey stares at Ian’s hand on his arm and nods.
“It’s… real,” Ian says, smiling. “You know?”

Mickey eyes the plain white envelope suspiciously as he slowly takes it from Ian’s hands. His brows furrow slightly. “I thought for sure you’d make us take the day off from work.”
“No, not today,” Ian says playfully, pretending to think about it. “But tomorrow, don’t bother setting your alarm.”
Mickey grins, all teeth. “Long weekend?”
The hopefulness in his eyes is already enough to convince Ian that what he has planned is a good idea. Just the prospect of a day off has Mickey beaming.
“Extra-long,” Ian tells him, rolling over to the side and propping his elbow up on the mattress, his head resting on his fist. “We took Monday off too.”

“It wasn’t that bad,” Ian says with a shrug, not knowing what else to really say in response to that. He scoops some more popcorn out of the bowl. “Movie just ended. Kids are all basically asleep.”
