Aramis just raises a hand in response, then sighs heavily once he’s disappeared around the corner, letting the last pretenses of cheer fall away. Not bothering to hurry, he wanders past the straggling cadets and stable boys to find his leathers and prepare for patrol. It’s going to be a long, slow few days.......But of course, for a Musketeer alone in Paris, things never stay slow for long. Fortunately, a Musketeer is never truly alone.

Summary
He was fourteen when it started, and twenty-two when it ended, if it ever really did. The dates are important. They matter because any blurriness in them and bad words start getting thrown around. Words like abuse and taken advantage, things that really don’t apply to him and certainly didn’t then, when he had wanted everything he got.
After managing to go a year without contact, Arthur receives a letter that brings him right back into Dutch’s orbit. He’s dying, and despite his usual theatrics, this time he means it.
Or, how Arthur watched his abuser die and got his groove back.

He and Jack had ditched the gang near as soon as John could get off his prison suit. But the terrible heartbreak— Arthur’s sad, sallow face, and the headstones of their three lost members (only two staked above bodies)— had lingered with him ever since. Arthur was long dead now, if the papers told it true. And so, he thought, was Abigail.
John has been living quietly with his son for years now, thinking the two of them all that was left of their family. Some bounty hunters passing through town thoroughly dismantle those beliefs.
