"You're gonna lay down on the couch on your stomach, 'cause you said you're tired anyhow, yeah?" He explained. "And I'll crack your back that way."
"...You seem really persistent with this." Ze spoke, crossing his arms.
"Yeah, 'cause if you go to sleep with back pain, you're gonna be all pissy."
"True, true... I hate how well you know me."

Ze had just returned from yet another trip into Wakafante's fridge to kill some more cave dwellers for him. The fighting has left him stiff as all hell, so when Moe and Wakafante head upstairs to do some brewing, Regect offers to help Ze out.

“You want to throw my laptop off a cliff.”
“Or smash it. Or set it on fire. Or all three. We can workshop it.”
There’s another quiet laugh, but it doesn’t quite stick the landing. Avery hears the hesitation creeping back in, curling around the edges of D3r’s voice like fog.
“In person,” D3r says, not quite a question.
“Yeah,” Avery says easily, like it doesn’t make his stomach flip. “In person. I wanna meet you.”
The words hang between them.
He watches D3r’s character on screen because it’s easier than imagining D3r’s face doing whatever it’s doing right now. The avatar doesn’t react, of course. Just stands there in the pixelated grass, the moon casting a pale square light over his shoulders. Avery imagines he can see tension in the way the model is angled, which is ridiculous, but he’s very good at projecting onto blockmen at this point.

Ze’s forearm pushes against Regect’s face. Regect growls, “Ow! Watch your fuckin’ elbow, dude!”
“I’m not watching anything.” Ze hisses, jamming a knee into his side. Regect curses loudly. “I can’t watch anything because it’s dark. Because you boxed us in a fucking hole.”

Regect sighs. "Look man, I'm sorry he banished your guns or whatever but it's getting dark and it's going to be a lot harder looking during the night." He squints, trying to make out Ze's dark form from far in front of them. "I can't even see you anymore, dude. Are you still there?"
A shuffle. Ze's jacket sleeve peeks out from the darkness, his middle finger pointed up. "Can you see this?"
"Oh fuck you. Real mature." Regect bristles.

An accident forces Ze to reveal more than he's willing to share. They stumble through it with as much grace as you can expect.

“You’re not welcome.” Ze confirms. Then, “..Stop getting in the bed.”
“Awe, Ze.” Regect says through a yawn, pointedly ignoring him, getting in the bed, “I knew you liked me. Somewhere. In there. Deep, deep down.”

Ze has been refusing to sleep since he's come back. Obviously, the only solution is for all three of them to sleep in the same room. Regect doesn't know what to do with himself.

Regect shifts nervously in its spot, its claws holding each other.
“Dude, what’s up with you lately?” It mutters, the tone coming off a little harsher than it intends for it to be.
Although Regect did try to add a little bit of sarcasm into its voice, trying to make it seem less awkward, it was still undoubtedly softer than its usual tone.
Ze stays quiet for what feels like half a minute, before opening his eyes sitting on his side, away from Regect.“I’m fine.” He murmurs, the wings on his back fluttering ever so slightly.

Summary
He was seventeen again. He didn’t want to be. He hated this time of his life. Yet there he was back in boot camp, listening to the drill sergeant yell instructions as aggressively as possible, the usual. Z felt terribly out of place, forced up to Georgia for the infantry portion of training. Z felt uneasy watching how the other men cheered and riled each other up. Something felt wrong, this wasn’t ever mentioned in the pamphlets and ceremonies. Despite his concern, he knew better than to question the sergeant. That never ended well.
Behind him a gunshot exploded, and an unexpected man’s voice screamed out in pain. As Z swung back around, he heard a heavy thud and saw a fellow trainee on the ground clutching his neck. Z’s breath catches in his throat watching blood spurt and pool from the wound on the man’s neck.

Z has a nightmare where he’s 17 again in boot camp, young and weak. After a series of misunderstandings Z finds himself running for his life, dodging violent men and clinging to his gun. Blood fills his mind.

“Whooo cares?” Ze whined, clumsily trying to move closer to the creature.
“I feel like you would. At least, once you sober up,” Regect spelled out, turning towards the stairs. “I’ll be right back, okay?”
“Regect-!” Ze suddenly called, grasping a hand around Regect’s wrist. His hold was shockingly strong for the state he was in, completely stopping the monster in his tracks. His voice promptly lowered to a feeble coo. “C’mon…”
Regect went still and simply stared at the player’s pleading face, prompting him to clarify further.
“...I don’t wanna be alone right now.”

Wakafante was determined to help his friend out, but due to desperately needing cataract surgery and being unable to afford it, he messed up and accidentally created the potion equivalent of an insanely (and immediately) effective alcohol. Now, Regect is left behind to take care of a drunken Ze and to make sure he doesn't do anything dumb. He won't be able to stop him from saying anything dumb, though...

Regect is a phenomenal dancer. At least, in his opinion.
Although, his cousin seems to think otherwise. During the fiercely passionate little "talk" they were having at Christmas, the two decided to settle their differences at the King In Yellow's ball in the middle of some world that didn't exist. The only catch was that this was a couples only dance.
But with 70 dollars and Regect's pride on the line, he sure as hell was going to destroy that bug.

He can’t figure out the reason himself—Z hasn’t formulated one coherent sentence and he obviously is hardly aware that Regect is here. He wouldn’t be caught dead hugging Regect otherwise.

After constant incidents of ReGect using his powers to blow up and ruin Z's builds, it drives a wedge between the two that ReGect is desperate to fix. So, along with an apology, ReGect proposes a way to finally bury the hatchet between the two of them. To make it fair, he could let Z use his powers and do anything he wanted, just for a day, with just a tiny catch. But what becomes a one-time strange experiment becomes a connection that leads to decisions that neither could have anticipated.
