“Thorin didn’t drink often. Or, rather, he didn’t drink until he was properly drunk. Of course he had some ale here and there, especially on joyous occasions, and had other types of alcohol at important events when fulfilling his role as the dwarven king, but you’d never guess it, as his demeanor tended to be mostly unchanged. There was no uncertainty in his steps, no swaying from side to side, no slurred speech or uncharacteristic behaviour. Secretly, Bilbo had wondered about what would happen if his husband were to overdo it – what type of a drunk would he be? Would he be an overly emotional one, laughing one moment and crying the next? Would his frown from meeting with king Thranduil deepen and would his anger come out, would he start a brawl? Or would he be the happy drunk sort, dancing and joking? Each possibility seemed more and more unimaginable to the hobbit. And, seeing as Thorin had no particular interest in drink, Bilbo wasn’t expecting to ever truly find out.”

Summary
The golden lamps of the royal dining hall cast a warm, amber glow over the table, but the atmosphere in the corridors of Erebor was far from peaceful. For months, a low-level murmur of dissent had been brewing in the darker corners of the mountain. Most of the kingdom adored their Hobbit Consort, the "Luck-wearer" who had helped reclaim their home. But one particular nobleman, Lord Bruni, a traditionalist with a heart as cold as the stone he mined, could not stand the sight of a Halfling wearing a crown of Mithril. To him, Bilbo Baggins was a soft, power-hungry intruder who had bewitched the King.
Bruni had decided that the "Hobbit problem" required a permanent solution. He hadn't just used a drop of poison; he had used enough to fell a dragon.

With Thorin and Dís away, Bilbo is left to take care of the kingly duties. Everything was supposed to go perfectly fine, of course, falling down the stairs was not part of his plans.
From the tumblr prompt: " I'm trying to see if I can slip the company in here! Perhaps Bilbo gets injured in his foot. It barely hurts. It's like having a hole in your shoe to hobbits. But the company is completely flustered when they see Bilbo limp, and even prompt (or actually do succeed) to carry him around, and comfort him while they do so."

sumersprklwrites: DON’T imagine a really really angry Thorin waiting until the doors of the throne room close on whatever rude guest was just there (Let’s face it, probably elves) and then IMMEDIATELY grabbing Bilbo, pulling him into his lap, and just sitting there with his face in Bilbo’s neck until he calms down. (Bilbo just sighs and pats Thorin’s hand because he knows it’s either this or Thorin throwing insults and maybe even starting wars).

As a fauntling, not even double digits, Bilbo Baggins falls from a tree and splits his skull neatly in two. He had been exploring alone, and so is left unbothered as he lays dead in the grass. He is still unbothered half an hour later when he sits up, stares curiously at the bloodstained earth, and scampers back home. He stands in the kitchen, happily munching a cranberry-orange scone and oblivious to Belladonna’s tears as she runs her fingers frantically through his blood matted hair.

Bilbo can't die, and the company finds out much sooner than he had planned (implying he had been meaning to tell them at all, but, well, Bilbo would be a fool to believe anything would go as planned on this confounded journey).

Bilbo knows his soulmate is a dwarf, so he joins the Quest for Erebor. Even if he doesn't meet his soulmate along the way, at least he will help that unknown dwarf return to a well deserved home. Still, it would be nice to meet his match. Dwarves, after all, are unexpectedly attractive. Particularly their king.
