She finds she was taken back some minutes before she was killed. Esmeralda hides in her bedroom, ignoring Ybbob's calls to her. She only comes out when she hears him scream. To which she sees her again, covered in her husband's blood. It's only when Esmeralda's stabbed a second time that she knows she has a big problem on her hands.

Flashing blue and red danced over his features as he watched The High Visionary, no, Dillon, being loaded into the back of a police van.
Thomas couldn’t stop staring, the last two years of his life crumbled away from under his feat life the edge of a worn cliff face. As Dillon took a seat, and the cage doors were closed, stern ice blue eyes met with worried brown ones as the van doors finally slammed shut.
He blinked a couple of times, why were his eyes burning? He sniffed hard an composed himself as he seemed to come back into reality.
