Charlie Spring is, to not overstate it, more stressed out than any other human being on the planet has ever been.
He’s not even fucking exaggerating.
Okay, maybe just a bit. But, work is a shitshow the past few months with the end of year. Nick and he have just moved into a new flat, the holidays are coming up soon, and all of these things happening all at once have been…ugh.
Nick usually packs both of them lunch. Charlie hasn’t had the heart to tell him he’s not eaten much of them for the past week.
He’s keeping an eye on it, using all the coping mechanisms he learned over a decade ago when he was first hospitalized for his mental health struggles. He hasn’t had a relapse in ages, though it’s not like he’ll ever be completely cured. Things are good, he’s happy and healthy and he knows it will never be as bad as it was that one cold, awful winter.
But sometimes, once in a while, life becomes too much, and he finds himself teetering on the edge of falling back into dangerous old patterns.
-aka Charlie is overwhelmed with work stress, moving, and general adult existing and it puts a strain on his mental health. he's due for a healthy reminder that healing is not a linear journey-

Charlie is next to him, and his mum is in the recliner beside them. His hands are shaking slightly.
Before they’d come downstairs, Charlie had helped him change his trousers. They thought it best to not startle his mum with a large bloodstain before she knew anything. Charlie promised to take them home and clean them, as he had experience cleaning blood from cloth (Nick’s chest feels tight when he thinks about that too hard).

In truth, Nick wasn’t sure. He did feel ill, in a sort of ambiguous way. But he could tell when he had a cold or flu coming on, and this wasn’t it. “Don’t think so,” he said. Might as well give his immune system the benefit of the doubt. “I’m probably just crashing after exams.”
Nick puts on a brave face at the bonfire, but he’s feeling worse than he’s letting on. Charlie worries, because he’s Charlie.
