It looked like an intense dream, one that Eddie could sympathize with. He reached out, brushing a bit of Steve’s hair back, smiling to himself when Steve’s face started to relax. He always looked so calm when he was asleep, nearly sweet. Eddie just hoped he wasn’t having a nightmare-
“Mm, Eddie, m-more.”
The hand Eddie had in his hair stilled, his mind not quite catching up to what he heard.

Steve sighed as Eddie stared at him, his lips parting just enough to murmur, “T-There. Right there.”

Summary
Despite the literal horrors, Eddie was doing pretty damn well. He'd spent months suffering in the Upside Down and come back out the other side alive and mostly in one piece. The only thing that had really been irking him recently was Steve Harrington.
Eddie had only seen him once, when Hopper first dragged him out of the tunnels, heaving for air under Eddie’s weight. Dustin had practically materialized in front of him and hugged him so hard it hurt, sobs wracking his body just as hard as they had the last time Eddie had seen him. Steve was a yard away, silent and straight-faced, and they made hardened eye contact over Dustin’s shaking shoulders.
It struck Eddie that Steve didn’t exactly look happy to see him. He wasn’t really expecting the guy to fall at his knees or jump for joy or anything, but this cold sort of indifference was not really what he had envisioned. Honestly, Eddie had thought things were pretty good between them pre-bataggedon. They even had Hobbit-centric plans for when the world was done ending, but clearly something happened that put a cramp in whatever good thing they had going.
OR Eddie is found alive, and it doesn't magically fix all of Steve's complicated emotions about him.

Summary
“What the fuck?” Steve blurts. Again. He's starting to lose count of how often it's been. “Who do you even think you are, you fucking weirdo?”
The guy cocks his head in confusion, but only for a second. Then, that infuriating grin slips back on. He's handsome, in a dangerous and rugged way, with his wild hair and bruised lip.
“Apologies, he rumbles. “Where are my manners?”
And then, without getting up off the ground, he reaches out and takes Steve’s hand in his. Steve watches, heart in his throat and eyes wide with confusion, how the guy bends into a dramatic bow and reverently kisses his own blood off his raw knuckles.
“The name is Edward. King Edward of the Woodland Mountains. Also oh-so-aptly known as Edward the Banished, though my friends just call me Eddie. And you, my dear …”
He looks up, all glinting eyes under dark lashes and Steve needs to swallow against the lump clogging his throat.
“You're going to be the one who saves me.”

She’s always late to practice because of marching band, and some time in the beginning of October Steve Harrington drops her off.
