Summary
As if all the breath was knocked out of him, he gasped loudly, taking in the sight before him. The nighttime skyline of Beijing was beautiful, he always knew that, but to see it from the top of this building, reflected in the river below them, caught him off guard. His eyes hurt with how brightly the city lights cast a glow against the dark blanket of sky, but he kept his eyes wide, taking everything in. The way the city moved, the way the city breathed, the way it winked at him, it was the most perfect view.
He felt the hand, still in his, squeeze, bringing him out of his reverie.
Scratch that, the nighttime skyline was not the most perfect view.
The boy standing in front of him, arms outstretched, hand in his, hair flying in the wind as he smiled widely back at him with the city lights behind him. His lungs screamed with the way the wind seemed to punch the air out of them. His heart pounded as Yibo’s smile grew impossibly wider. Despite the absence of light on the rooftop, he somehow caught a glint from his eye flashing at him, asking, begging him to come closer.
That.
This was the most perfect view.

Summary
To say that he runs to his car would be incorrect, as he is a Lan, and running is both undignified and unnecessary unless in immediate danger. Nor does he slam his key into the ignition, or aggressively swerve around the cars on the freeway, or have a mild panic attack at the fact he is picking A-Yuan up late from school for the first time ever.
He comes close, though.
By the time he arrives, it’s 4:35PM, and he has imagined about fifty different worse-case scenarios. The door is partly open when he gets to it, a messy label of 104B—Art Room scrawled with chalk on a placard next to the faded wood. As he opens it fully, he expects to see a wailing, terrified child, or perhaps a scene of utter misery and betrayal.
What he finds is his son, hands covered in paint, being sung to by a beautiful, dark-haired stranger.
“Ducks live in the pond, yellow ducks, happy ducks!”
Lan Wangji stops in his tracks.

“Wei Ying,” Lan Zhan says, and when Wei Ying turns around, Lan Zhan has followed him into the kitchen and is doing something with the empty wine glass that could almost be termed fidgeting. His fingertips tense and relax, and Lan Zhan takes a deep breath and squares his shoulders almost imperceptibly. “Would you like me to cut your hair for you?”
Wei Ying’s brain skids to a halt. Oh. Huh. That would. That would be a hell of a lot easier, wouldn’t it? Lan Zhan would at least be able to see and touch the back of his head at the same time, and that’s half the battle. Even if it’s not a good haircut, it would be something, and it probably wouldn’t end with Wei Ying in tears, and it would end with Wei Ying having shorter hair, which is the only thing he really wants right now.
“Yeah,” he says, a little awed. “If you don’t mind then that would be great, Lan Zhan.” He can almost feel the breeze on his undercut again, spine tingling in anticipation.
Or: Lan Zhan offers to help out with Wei Ying's quarantine growout... with sexy results!

Lan Zhan's alarm goes off sharply at five and he switches it off immediately. He can hear Wei Ying moving around in the apartment — Wei Ying frequently does not realize how late it is and Lan Zhan tries to avoid anything that would make Wei Ying realize that he is awake. Not that he doesn't want to see Wei Ying, he always does. However he knows with a certainty born of many years of living together that Wei Ying will get distracted talking to him and often forget to sleep entirely. Wei Ying's body needs the rest, the dark crescents under his eyes testament to this fact.
So it is not unusual for him to lay in bed listening to Wei Ying patter around the apartment. The walls are thin, he can hear the running of the faucet as Wei Ying gets a drink of water and the eventual thud of Wei Ying's door as he makes his way into his own room. He can even hear the faint rustling as Wei Ying shucks off his clothes and the soft noise his body makes when it hits his bed.
He prepares to rise, sitting up in bed, when he hears it. At first he thinks he’s imagining it, the heavy panting and low soft noises coming from the other side of the wall. Then he hears a long, low, satisfied-sounding moan from the other side of the wall.

Ah. The Asshole Dog is loose again. Lan Zhan knows that it is not the dog’s fault for being an asshole, but The Asshole Dog is the reason Lan Zhan had a fence put in at a significant personal expense, because the alternative was allowing his garden to be destroyed and for Bunny to be menaced on her leashed outdoor adventures. Unacceptable. The Most Beautiful Man in the World cringes at the barking, scooting further away from the door through a sea of a dozen broken eggs and leaving a yolky trail in his wake.
“Fuck,” he whimpers, curling into a ball, both hands wrapped around the back of his neck as if to—as if to protect himself, Lan Zhan realizes. “Fuck, fuck, fuck, please—” The Most Beautiful Man in the World begs, voice ragged. He’s definitely hyperventilating now, from what Lan Zhan can tell between the audible sobs. There’s another bark from outside, and The Most Beautiful Man in the World flinches bodily, making a terrified sound that Lan Zhan feels behind his ribs.
Or: A meet ugly, a dog, and the beginning of something wonderful.

Lan Zhan shuts his eyes in exasperation. Lan Huan’s “Head Up and Heels Down,” shirt is confusing enough to the average person without being actively suggestive. (Every time Wei Ying sees it he proceeds to sing, “Heels down, head up, that’s the way we like to fuck!” under his breath, so the line for “actively suggestive” is… mutable.) He can’t imagine the kind of top stampede his extremely gay brother would cause by going out of the house in a t-shirt announcing, for all intents and purposes, his desire to be the star of an orgy. He tries very hard not to picture either the stampede or the orgy.
“Why would you even want sixteen hands between your legs, anyway?” Wei Ying asks the room at large, sounding genuinely curious. “What would they do? I feel like at a certain point there’s, like, diminishing returns, right?”
Ah. The mental image of Lan Huan’s Top Stampede has been replaced with a mental image that is both better and worse: Wei Ying as the centerpiece of a nine-person orgy.
