“So am I,” Trent replies. Roy looks at him for another beat before he grunts and turns back to his desk. Trent only hesitates for another beat before adding, “And— Roy?”
“Yeah?” Roy asks, half-turning back.
“I like you, too,” Trent informs him, unable to fight back the slight smile on his face. “Not to make a whole fucking thing of it.”

Manchester City was the only team that made Roy feel this old. His knee hurt, his muscles felt like wet cement, and his head was pounding at the thought of listening to an overly chipper pep talk. The score hadn’t been that ugly—3 to 2—but it felt ugly. Roy was ready to get the hell home and drown himself in his own shower, but there was a security guard poking his head into the locker room, waving him down, before he could even change out of his kit.
“You got a guy named Jamie here for you today?” the security guard asked. “Kid’s banged up, but he won’t let me take him to first aid—just keeps asking for you.”
Roy was on his feet immediately, fatigue gone, ignoring his teammates’ questioning looks.

Summary
The second time that Jamie shows up, smirking and announcing that he can't participate in training because he's hurt is so much worse than the first time. He's changed a lot, grown up a lot, and no one knows why he's acting like this again when he's put so much time and effort into not being that person anymore. It feels like history is repeating itself, except... something isn't adding up.
Sam is the one who puts it together, who sees the proof that Jamie very much is hurt, and has led everyone to believe that he isn't by telling them that he is in a way that sounded like an obvious lie. It makes his head spin, and he doesn't know what to do. Thankfully, his team captain and his coaches are there to figure it out.
(Hypothetical season 3 timeline. Completely gen. Jamie is hurt in an accident. He doesn't handle it well.)

Jamie’s never really cared about football. He’s been dating Keeley Jones, star striker for the Lionesses and captain of the AFC Richmond women’s team for about six months, and while he goes along to most of her matches like the dutiful boyfriend he is and is able to follow the rules well enough, he still struggles to understand why people get so worked up over it. It is literally just a game.
Generally, he would rather spend a Sunday afternoon at a play, or a film. But still, it has some perks. For starters, he loves to watch Keeley enjoy herself — she’s beautiful at the best of times, but watching her out on the pitch, she’s fucking fire. Two seats down from him in the VIP box, Roy Kent — who’s here again with that little blonde girl and looking fit as fuck in a black leather jacket that Jamie recognises as last season’s Saint Laurent and happens to know costs more two business flight airfares to New York, probably with hotel thrown in too — clearly thinks the same, as he roars at the action on the pitch.

Summary
He can’t hang out with the boys, but he hates going home too. He hates being alone in his new flat, terrified that his dad will find out where he lives now and send them after him again. He’s taken to hanging round the club after training. He’ll find a quiet place to sit, pull out his book, and settle in for as long as he can before the stadium locks up for the night and he's forced to leave.
He’s onto the 34th book to read before you die — Emma — and is surprised by how much he likes it. In comparison to his own drama, gentle scandals and gossip are a nice escape. Today’s reading location is the boot room. The new kitman has some magic way of making it smell of lavender instead of sweaty feet, and if Jamie puts a couple of towels on the bench, it makes a nice pillow to sit on.
Mr Knightley is in the middle of yet another stern lecture — in his head, Knightley looks a lot like Roy, but he's not sure Keeley quite fits as Emma — when the door bangs open. Jamie jumps and is surprised to see Keeley standing there instead of Will, a guilty look on her face.
