Summary
They marry on a gloomy afternoon in December, just two days before Christmas. Missus Rogers would have never allowed it had she been around, God rest her soul in peace. There had been no announcement in the papers, no whispers in the stairwell in the weeks leading up to their nuptials.
Times were tough, but gossip lifted spirits high. Folks weren’t too terribly consumed with their own troubles to know a shotgun wedding when they saw one, and a scandal of the Barnes variety always kept the neighborhood sufficiently fed when the soup lines wound a little too long around the block. He has been looking a bit brawny about the belly as of late, hasn’t he?
How scandalous!
First comes love, indeed. After that? Order of events interchangeable.
This one certainly won’t make it to the history books. Barnes-gate, 1935.

Bucky wordlessly gestures for Steve to hold up his sign, a request he’s all too happy to oblige. He unfolds the scrap paper, revealing the hastily scrawled text in the middle.
LIFE
Neither one of them makes a sound as Bucky pulls up a song on his phone, skipping to the chorus. The tinny sound erupts from his speakers, barely loud enough to be heard over the murmured chatter surrounding them.
“Life is a highway,” Tony drones over the mic, sounding utterly unimpressed.
It dawns on Natasha first, realization lighting up her sharp features as her expression morphs from smug to downright delighted, a shocked laugh escaping her.
“And I wanna ride it all night long..!”
Or; As far as creative costumes go, Bucky’s certain this one takes the cake. The follow-up isn’t too bad, either.

Steve’s massive hand dwarves him in ways he never thought possible, adding to that sensation of delicacy he’d felt earlier. Wrecked is the only word to describe the state of him. He doesn’t even bother hiding his guilty wince, awkwardly rubbing his neck.
Natasha’s gonna kill him.
Or; Bucky’s a (partially) reformed internet keyboard warrior turned breakout pop star with a near-constant raging hard on for movie star Steve Rogers and very little media training. A drunk tweet sent on an account that is very much not his private one leaves him at the center of a media shitstorm right on the brink of his biggest break yet and in the aftermath, he anticipates canceled contracts and a swift end to his budding stardom. Instead, he gets a real good dicking down by America’s Sweetheart.
He’s really not too fussed about it, if he’s being totally honest.

The Bucky practically bursting with life just a few feet ahead of him, separated only by thin glass, both taunts him and fascinates him. As much as it aches, he can’t look away.
