Hermione Granger had never experienced a summer vacation as peaceful as the one leading into her final year at Hogwarts. Even with the looming threat of N.E.W.T.s at the end of the term, she was convinced it would be a relatively normal year: over-studying, achieving top marks, and enjoying her final days at the castle with her friends before graduation.
But those plans shattered the moment a Ministry of Magic letter arrived at the Burrow. What appeared to be a simple school project would soon bring together an unlikely group of people—shattering old prejudices, uncovering forgotten creatures, and proving that the most meaningful connections often spark in the most unexpected places.
Hermione could have easily walked away, but she wouldn't be herself if she let such an opportunity slide. Now, her plate wasn’t just full of classes; she was officially in charge of The Forgotten Creatures Club and everything that entailed. Even if it meant dealing with three reluctant Slytherins and the biggest walking headache in existence.

Not when Ron was still mourning the loss of his older brother and trying to hold himself and his family together while George continued to shut himself out from the outside world.
Not when Hermione herself was guilt ridden with the thought of never being able to see her parents again. Or the fact that she still hadn’t fully recovered from the curse that Rodolphus had hit her with during the final moments of the battle that had her recovering in St Mungo’s for three weeks after.
Or even when she remembered the way that Malfoy had looked at her as she cursed him for the rest of his life.

Here we are at Book Two.
This story follows the events of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, primarily from Draco Malfoy’s point of view, with occasional chapters from Hermione Granger’s perspective. While many familiar events remain, this is an alternate retelling, so expect plenty of canon divergence along the way.
There are references to child abuse throughout the story. They are not the central focus, but Theodore Nott’s father is not a kind man, so please read with that in mind.

Seven years after her death, Hermione awakens. It is confusing to understand how she went from fighting Bellatrix the night the Death Eaters entered Hogwarts to being a seventeen-year-old girl surrounded by her friends who were now in their twenties. Time passed, but not for her. Brought back to life, Hermione does everything she can to behave normally, but every time her eyes meet the culprit of her death, even if he wasn't the one who killed her, she can't help but let the hatred bubbling inside her burn more fiercely.
Unfortunately, Draco Malfoy earned a place among her friends when she wasn't there, and she has to spend more time with him than she would like, but as the years go by she discovers that of all the people around her, Malfoy was the only one who made her feel completely alive.
Was it guilt that made him draw closer every time she pushed him away? Was it hatred that made Hermione find his eyes in crowded places? Or did they both feel something more?
