After the dust settled, the things that had seemed irrelevant began to matter again. In Mike’s case, things like getting up earlier to use the bathroom before Nancy had a chance to hog it, doing the dishes to avoid trash duty, bugging his mom every morning to teach him how to drive…
There’s also the matter of Mike and Will’s friendship. Or lack thereof.
Because Will announced to everyone that he didn’t like girls and Mike just stood there and didn’t even allow himself time to process that information because there were other things occupying all his brain power.
Or, Mike stopped to think about what happened but only came up with a bunch of questions. Will had almost all the answers.

Sure, secrets are easy to hide in the dark. Soft blushes and nervous glances go unnoticed and everything becomes guarded in the veil of night. But secrets aren’t the only thing that hide, their consequences seem so far out of reach when darkness warps blurry vision. When everything is skewed and Will can’t tell what’s only a trick of the soft nightlight peeking under the door from the hall, he could trust himself even less than normal.
“Me too,” Will says. If Mike started it, who was to say he couldn’t give in a little bit. Especially when he couldn’t see past the weight of his words.
Will doesn’t really want to sleep. Not at all.

A scowl forms on Lucas’s face, and he goes tense, like he’s bracing himself for a full-fledged fight. “That’s different,” he starts to say.
Then, suddenly, he stops.
It’s as if someone has clicked the PAUSE button on a television, and Mike watches as his best friend goes still. Recognition flashes across Lucas’s face, and his brow furrows as he looks up, meeting Mike’s eyes. And though he doesn’t say anything, Mike can tell the exact moment when it clicks.
“Oh, shit,” Lucas breathes.

Which was great. Amazing.
If Mike hadn’t started ignoring Will all over again.
They were fine after Vecna—at least for a while. Mike made up for all the lost time, and Will had been genuinely happy… until Mike suddenly went back to acting like Will didn’t exist. And Will needed to figure out why.
Or: Will trying to fix his friendship with Mike during the 18 months.
OR: five times Mike and Will almost kiss, and one time they finally do.

As obvious as Mike's eyes landing on Will again, and again, and again.
Vecna had torn Hawkins in half. The air tasted like chemicals and ash. Schools shut down, and soldiers patrolled the streets like the world had tilted just past survivable. Everything was wrong, but Mike Wheeler wasn’t complaining, because two months ago the Byers had moved in with the Wheelers.
Mike’s breath stumbled in his chest. He tried to ground himself, tried to think of anything, anything except the awareness of how close Will was (he was sitting at a normal distance), except the shape of Will’s mouth when he spoke. Maybe if he counted to ten, he could shake off whatever the hell this was instead of staring at Will’s lips like some creep.
One… two… three… four…
When he lifted his eyes again, Will’s eyes were still on him, he was still talking, and he looked so alive.
Five… six—
Mike’s pulse thudded hard enough that the numbers broke apart in his head. The air felt too thin, his chest too tight, everything tilting just slightly off-center around the curve of Will’s smile.
God.

It had been fifteen hours since Will Byers had crumpled to the ground inside MAC-Z after saving Mike Wheeler’s life. Fifteen hours since the kids had been pulled into the depths of hell and Mike had crawled his way to Will avoiding the flames that licked at his arms, had grasped onto him tightly and pulled him towards the Radio Shack. Fifteen hours since he and Joyce dragged him half unconscious through the dark tunnels, where they’d ran into a terrified and frantic Lucas on their way. Fifteen long hours since Mike’s whole world had been turned upside down, again.
That was funny, and frankly Mike was unaware if it even meant anything to any of them anymore.

Picks up after volume 1 of Stranger Things season 5, Will Byers is weak and unconscious on the couch, and Mike Wheeler endlessly worries about him. All while having trouble accepting what he will slowly come to realize.

It should be illegal for someone to look this pleased with themselves. “Yeah?” Will says quietly, index finger still hovering at the corner of Mike’s mouth, thumb pressed gently under his chin. “I make you nervous?”
Mike thinks Will might be psychic. (Kind of.) Will is being very irritatingly vague about the whole thing.

Not even the trees sway with the light summer breeze, almost like the whole world has paused to give James room to digest what he’s fucking looking at.
Because—because—because then Regulus is fucking jumping—no joke, jumping—into Crouch’s arms. Crouch receives his meagre weight easily, lifting him off his feet and twirling him around once, before setting him back down onto his feet.
And then. And fucking—fucking then—
Then, Regulus leans up into a kiss, and James’ heart fucking shatters into thousands of little pathetic pieces.
Or, Regulus has run away from Grimmauld Place, and is now living with the Potters. Throughout the summer, James and Regulus have developed a friendship, and this newfound closeness leads to James developing feelings for Regulus. James plans to confess to Regulus at the bonfire party the Marauders organize every year the week leading up to school—except it all quickly goes wrong when Regulus’ friends join the celebration.
