Iwaizumi Hajime, the athletic trainer for the Japanese Men's National Volleyball Team, observes the #13 Argentinian setter from afar. He tells his team that he doesn't know Oikawa Tooru as well as he used to, and he tells himself that the concern he feels for his estranged best friend is just his mind playing cruel tricks.
Until Sakusa Kiyoomi, outside hitter for Team Japan, convinces him otherwise.

During Hajime’s third year in California, Oikawa pays him a surprise visit in the middle of December. He comes unannounced, like a storm of roaring happiness and laughter and smart-ass remarks.
When he returns to San Juan, behind him he leaves a probably condemned ficus bonsai (no matter what Hajime says), an endless string of amazing moments, and alarmingly low levels of mustard for the rest of the Irvine population.
That, and one more thing.

“No way,” Iwa-chan confirms. Oikawa frowns.
“Maybe we don’t have to get married yet,” he ponders. “What if we wait until we’re old? Like super duper old?”
Iwa-chan’s brows furrow in thought. “Thirty?” he suggests, and Oikawa nods.
“Like thirty,” he agrees. “How about it, Iwa-chan? We only have to get married if we’re not in any other relationship when we’re 30.”
If Iwa-chan’s disgruntled expression is anything to go by, he’s clearly not entirely convinced by Oikawa’s plan. Still, he nods once. “Fine,” he agrees, scratching absent-mindedly at the star on his wrist. “That should be long enough to get rid of you.”
“Iwa-chan!”
