“A cult kidnapped me and turned me into a fox for their ritual,” she read. “But I ran away before they could finish it.”
Matt frowned at Neil. “What do you mean, a cult kidnapped you?”
Neil did the fox-version of shrugging, and let out a short bark. Allison set the paper down for him to write again.
When he was done, she picked it up again and read. “They wanted the order to reinstate.”
“Dude, that explains, like, literally nothing,” Nicky said.

He dresses well, he’s fit, he’s an athlete — he is comfortable with the way he looks and the way he is. It doesn’t matter. Neil is— enough. Everything else is inconsequential. Neil does not comment on his looks. Neil says things like You’re amazing and Choose us and I want to stay and that means more than any shallow observation ever could.

The translator’s lips twitched at the comment. “Petra wants you to know how much they have enjoyed watching your team’s success in the American leagues.”
Andrew waits for the rest of the comment to follow. The translator seems set on editing, unfortunately. “Are they paying you well to play diplomat?”
The comment is out before he can stop it. It seems to take the translator by surprise and his mouth twitches into a barely contained grin.
“A certain amount of discretion is expected to keep international relations happy, yes.”
Andrew is intrigued by his honesty. “Tell them that Day would pitch a fit if he knew they found time to watch another countries Exy team. If you have time to watch than you have time to practice, after all.”
He translates perfectly with a smirk at being called out. Andrew watches him closely. If asked, he would say that this man posed a threat. In reality, he enjoyed the way he hadn’t backed down when being caught out.
“Why am I here if you speak the language?” The translator asks in English.

Neil barely suppresses his flinch at the name and glares at Stuart. “I’m not going back to school. You were the one who wanted me to be homeschooled anyway!” It’s true; after his mother was sent away and Stuart took Neil in, he went to a public high school for two months. Neil’s true identity got out within a month because Riko Moriyama had friends there and Stuart decided that bullying and near-daily school-related panic attacks shouldn’t be added to Neil’s endless list of issues, and hired a private tutor for him. That was more than a year and a half ago.
Stuart scoffs. “You never leave the house, you don’t have any friends. You can’t hide here forever."
Neil has been raised by his uncle Stuart for four years, and now he wants Neil to start at a real high school. There's cats, paper cranes, kissing, and good old fashioned friendship.
