“From the past tense,” Michael murmured, his face giving nothing away. “I’m guessing it didn’t go well.”
In between their shared breaths and the small sentences that required courage to say, Michael’s hand had absentmindedly slipped from Jamal’s waist, his palm resting lightly on Jamal’s stomach, making the muscles beneath it stealthily tighten.
“Ask your mom about that.”
Michael laughed softly. Jamal smiled at the sound.

All of the people washing beside them through the street lead all of their individual lives. All of them oblivious to the way that Tobio’s life lags in stupid stagnation whenever he sees Oikawa Tooru, and every one of them, including him, unaware of the intersection between faith and chance that culminates in finding one person in one city, the very same thread of chance that could have allowed Tobio the small mercy of forgetting had he walked down any other street.
But in this city and on this street, Tobio lets out a small breath that shatters as it releases. “Fine,” he says. “I can make time.”
Tobio decides to get over Oikawa Tooru for good. At least until he shows up in his city.
