The dangerous glint returns to Flint’s eyes, and in an instant he has regained the upper hand. “Hm. And what exactly is it that you have imagined?” There’s a slight edge to the last word, and Flint’s voice is a low, rumbling growl.
Silver is caught, and he knows it. Knows that he put himself here. If he’s honest he knew that he would find a way to put himself here as soon as he had registered what Flint told him. He’s not wrong. He thinks back over their association and knows he’s not wrong. It makes sense now.

The thing is, Diomedes is there and gone, a light autumn breeze disguised as a warrior-king, and it’s never going to be anything to him, and Odysseus is a tired old man who only ever wanted to stay home. He’s terrified that one day Diomedes will see straight through him, right to the rotten core, and turn his back like he should’ve done ten years ago.
