Summary
Lights are low. Candles are lit. There’s some type of slow, sexy, bass-driven music in the background that thrums in his bones.
“Uh..Chrissy?” He looks at her, helpless, chest tight.
“Yes?” she asks sweetly, stepping towards him in those knee-high socks she sometimes wears. The ones that drive him up the wall in the sickest way.
“What the fuck is happening?”
“Here. Let me take your bag.” She reaches and he takes a step back.
“No.” He takes another step backwards and slams into the closed door behind him. “No, you’re gonna tell me what the hell is going on before I lose my shit.” He glances around the room. “Why do you have a giant black pentagram carpet? Who are you?”
“Don’t worry, we won’t do anything with that tonight. Tonight’s just the rehearsal.”

Summary
But her mother isn’t paying attention. She’s staring at the tv-screen in open-mouthed horror.
Chrissy glances up and finds herself equally open-mouthed. Bursting into flames of memory. Memories so hot, so vivid, they’ve been keeping her warm for weeks.
Eddie Munson is filling up her screen in full metal regalia. Playing live on the late night talk show stage. Leather and tattoos. Glowing and god-like with a wild mane of hair. Smirking at the camera. Plucking chords so spine-tingling it makes her mother scramble for the remote.
“He looks absolutely demonic!” her mother gripes as she fumbles with the buttons, turning the volume down.
Chrissy is burning a violent shade of red. She’s positive that if her mother looks hard enough, she’ll see the demon has already been inside her. That he made her come and cry and beg for three days straight.

Summary
His bursting anger took her off guard tonight. The way he gripped her wrist so hard it hurt. Left her skin marked pink. How he spat paranoia in her face and antagonized her with barely suppressed rage. She knows it’s a red flag. Knows that what he’s doing is dead wrong. That him getting so sullen and resentful every time she comes within an inch of another guy can’t be healthy. Can’t be normal.
She seriously needs to think this through.

Summary
He’s a dream to talk to. To laugh with. To tease and touch.
The rest of the time he’s everything he’s rumoured to be. Prickly. Rude and hostile. Takes everything personally. Says she’s spoiled. A crybaby. Daddy’s girl. Little bitch. He smokes too much, drives too fast, blares metal so loud it’s like he’s trying to drown himself in it. Picks her up in his Camaro with his face bruised, and if she asks anything about it, he’ll lie. She knows he’s lying. Knows if she prodded he’d snap at her.
So she doesn’t bring it up. Takes part in the fiction.
