Summary
He doesn't really want to fuck right now, despite what his body is signaling. The prospect honestly makes him feel a little ill. Yet he would do anything to keep Louis here another five minutes, do anything just to keep feeling his hands on his skin. Maybe afterwards, if Lestat pleases him, he'll be held, kissed, and that gaping void will fill just the tiniest bit, the loneliness will become bearable for a little while.
A run-in with the local coven and a disagreement with his mother leaves Lestat in a bad place. He's surprised at who comes looking for him.

“Let me clear things up for you, Lestat." Winnie lifts out of her seat and leans across the table, pearl necklace dangling from her throat. “I’m a fairy. A homosexual. A downright nuisance – and I like to get dolled up. So don’t you worry about whether or not I’m a woman. You just enjoy yourself tonight. Maybe you and Louis could learn a thing or two about being human.”
Louis grins, clearly endeared, and bumps his shoulder against Lestat. “We’d love that, wouldn’t we, Lestat?”
Lestat nods vigorously and flattens his hands on the table. Winnie takes in the sight of his long fingernails and shimmering rings. “I am your student,” says Lestat. "Miss Winnie.”
Louis introduces Lestat to some old friends from Storyville. Lestat realizes he doesn't know what it means to be a man.

Summary
The night stretches outside, and Lestat starts tracing lines against Louis’ thigh. It’s tender at first, only a faint touch. He watches— eyes intent on Louis’ face, looking for his reaction. Then he cups him on top of his pants.
Louis stops him with a gentle hand on his wrist.
“Not tonight,” he breathes. “Soon. But not tonight.”
Lestat eyes him with confusion. “Why?”
Louis answers with a knowing look and a sweet kiss. Their lips meet so softly, so gently, it almost makes Louis cry.
“Because you don’t need to please me to be loved,” he finally says against Lestat’s mouth, heart on his throat. Lestat freezes. “Let me hold you.”

Lestat may be an exhausted shell of his former self, but there's a familiarity there that makes Louis's heart ache. Talking with him, holding him, just getting to see him. It's all too much and not enough.

He sits on the left side. Crosses his leg over the other, stretches his arm along the back, closes his eyes. And he waits. He listens to people pass him by; listens to the blood rushing through their veins, the drunken and off key singing, the low murmurs of lovers whispering to each other. It’s all familiar, like coming home after some time away.
