The arresting officers were in pursuit when Wei died in view of officers and surviving heirs. Legal heirs claimed the suspect's qiankun pouch off his body and refused to turn over to arresting party. The Commonwealth of Jianghu brought an action against defendant Jiang for refusing to surrender Wei property.
