If Rumi said she’d always wanted Mira and Zoey to know about her patterns, she’d be lying.
When Celine suggested that Rumi officially become a Hunter at sixteen and start her own group, Rumi agreed instantly. When Celine warned Rumi about telling or showing her prospective group members about her patterns, Rumi agreed it was for the best that she keep it a secret. Besides, the patterns would be gone once they sealed the Honmoon, right? How long could that take, anyways?
It would take a while, actually, because Rumi forgot about the lead-up to a group’s debut.

Summary
“Mira! I need help!” Zoey’s voice is crystal clear between the sound of whizzing shin-kals.
Magenta flares through the Honmoon at Zoey’s very words. Just as Mira moves to respond, Zoey’s phone hangs up. She turns off the stove with the flick of her wrist, sliding toward the elevator with her socked feet. Before Mira can put on her shoes, Rumi appears in the hall in a cloud of magenta smoke.
Mira has to stop and stare at Rumi for a moment. She’s wearing something she’d never be caught in outside a photoshoot. Mira loses her train of thought somewhere between the low V-neck, the black coat, her jewelry, and leather boots. Her mouth waters a little at the sight of Rumi, assisted by the smell of near-finished bulgogi wafting through the air.
Mira almost forgets about their other girlfriend for a moment. Almost. (She knows Zoey wouldn’t blame her.)
“Zoey,” Rumi says simply, holding out her hand to Mira. “She’s at the breach.”

Rumi could never forget the night she showed Mira and Zoey her scars.
Rumi didn’t mean to hide them from Zoey and Mira, she really didn’t.
The patterns? Yes. That was intentional. The scars? No.
Once upon a time, Rumi spent every waking moment worrying that Mira and Zoey would catch a glance of a purple jagged line on her skin. She hid those purple lines for years under hoodies, long-sleeve shirts, and jackets. It hurt to hide from the two people she loved most in the world. It hurt even more to pretend that she was just fine, thanks for asking, when she had to walk away from a fight while bleeding under her hoodie.

Summary
After Mira and Rumi’s gruesome injuries due to self-sacrifice, Zoey took it upon herself to remind them all how to dodge and block.
“It’s not that hard!” Zoey scolded them when Rumi and Mira laughed at her idea.
They can’t help laughing because Zoey is objectively adorable when she’s angry.
Zoey still has a point, though.
It eats Mira alive when one of her girls gets hit. Rumi, because she’s been hurt enough by life already. Zoey, because she’s Zoey and how could someone be so cruel to hurt someone so sweet?

Summary
The client hadn’t really requested anything at all; their emails had been almost overly polite, if not jarringly formal, and had selected only the most vanilla options on the questionnaire she provided. Certainly a far cry from the standard practices of her usual clientele, but this one had paid upfront and picked this expensive hotel, and Mira’s fees are dear enough on their own that she had been coloured intrigued.
Mira takes a left down the hallway after leaving the elevator and finds herself at the door to the room. She doesn’t steel herself—doesn’t need to. She can handle anything. Has handled most things. Mira swipes the keycard and lets herself in.
The person sitting on the bed is probably the last thing she expects.
In which Mira is a professional, Rumi is socially inept, and Zoey is also there. Let's hope nobody catches feelings.

For once in her life, Rumi wants to be selfish.
Or: HUNTR/X works towards sealing the Honmoon and falls in love along the way. Pre-reveal Rumi, hiding both her patterns and her wants, loves her girls in whatever way she can until she's free (whether that means shielding Mira and Zoey in fights or pretending to be something she's not). She just has to hold out until the Honmoon’s golden. Straightforward enough, right?

Finally, Zoey blurted it out, voice soft but sharp:
“Have you ever thought of… something besides monogamy?”
Mira’s thumb stilled on the screen. She looked up, slow. “…What?”
Zoey’s hands twisted in her lap. “Like—not open relationships. Just… not just one person. Have you ever thought about being with more than one person and it still being okay?”
She wasn’t looking at Mira. Her voice was tight, like it hurt to speak. Mira watched her with a furrowed brow, still quiet.
“I feel so guilty all the time. Because I love you, Mira. I love you, and this doesn’t change that, but I see her and I want to make her smile and I want her to hold my hand and I think she’s beautiful and weird and sweet and I—”
She finally looked up, tears shining in her eyes.
“I think I ruined us. And I’m so sorry.”
Mira just stared at her. Wide-eyed. Silent.
Zoey’s heart dropped. “Say something.”
Mira exhaled like she’d been holding her breath for a month.
Then she visibly deflated—shoulders dropping, head tilting back against the wall—and let out a quiet, choked laugh.
“…Oh thank god.”
