The washing machine hums in the background as Kaveh slowly unravels everything he has ever known.
There are worse places to realize you are in love. There are also much better places. More romantic, at least. Not much is very romantic about the floor of a closet-turned-laundry room in your ex-best-friend-now-roommate’s condo; where Kaveh is currently sprawled. It smells strongly of laundry detergent. Maybe it’s just the fumes getting to him—that would be an awfully convenient solution.
Love has always had a tendency of doing terrible things to him.

Kaveh supposed that Alhaitham must have thought that he was crazy for crashing into him then just freezing up. A little defensively, Kaveh replied, averting his eyes, “You shouldn’t read and walk, it’s dangerous.”
Alhaitham raised an eyebrow at him. “Sure,” he said, unperturbed and unaffected like he always used to be.
It broke Kaveh’s heart to see Alhaitham so closed off- nothing like the one that he had left back home, in another time, in a time that would now never be.(But maybe he was wrong. Maybe it was a time that still could be.)

“You’re so warm,” Kaveh utters. He brings his hand up to touch his cheek.
“Mm,” Alhaitham hums, leaning into the touch.
Kaveh keeps his hand where it is and gives him a sad smile. “You only get like this when you’re sick or drunk.”
“Pathetic?”
Kaveh shakes his head. “Affectionate. It’s… kind of nice, to be honest.” He laughs. “To tell you the truth, I used to try to get you drunk just to see you like this.”
If his cheeks weren’t already burning, he might blush. “Really.”
“Your attitude is easier to handle when you’re all clingy,” Kaveh admits.
"Well, I guess you get to see it one last time,” Alhaitham says.
Kaveh’s expression sobers. “…I guess so.”

His head felt like it was too heavy, lolling to the side, and Kaveh was speaking louder then, faster, but colours were dancing nauseatingly in Alhaitham’s vision, and his extremities were beginning to tingle and go numb. He shivered, involuntarily, coming to the realisation that he was freezing cold, and Kaveh’s hand cupped his cheek, words slurring together in a loud and frantic mess.Alhaitham comes home in the early hours of the morning, bleeding in his desire for Kaveh.
