It all started with a well-written, but not very groundbreaking article somebody probably posted as a filler-piece between the ones that actually get traction.

Peter snorts and pushes off the doorframe. “Steve didn’t tell me shit,” he says. “And even if he did, I do what I want. So if I wanted to sit around with all you people and play Settlers of Catan while eating homemade pretzels, I would. But I don’t, so I don’t. You are a roof over my head and food on my plate. Other than that, you can all leave me the hell alone.” He turns and the bedroom door slams.
“Is that right,” Tony tells the closed door, setting his hands on his hips. “Oh, we’ll see about that.”
Mission. Freaking. Acquired.

Tony steeled himself for something. A tearful embrace, maybe a hug that turned into an iron grip around the throat. Instead, Peter dropped his duffel on the couch he had just spent an hour perfecting. A small death inside.
Right,” Tony muttered, clearing his throat. “So—”
“When am I going home?”
Sharp. No warm-up. Kid even left the earbuds in, music leaking loud enough to prove the point: not listening. Then he flopped onto the cushions with an undue hardness.
Tony swallowed the wince. “Wow. Okay. Straight to the big existential. You only just got here.”
Peter shrugged, gaze fixed somewhere past him. “Yeah. I know.”

Iron Man saves a hurt Spider-Man, who decides to run away from a now very annoyed Tony Stark.
A few weeks later, Tony comes across Peter, a genius fifteen year old who always looks hungry and wears tattered clothing. To Peter's shock (and dismay), Tony decides to take him under his wing as his intern.
Meanwhile, Iron Man is trying to figure out who this spider-dude that is refusing to accept his help.
Set after the Civil War. Enhanced individuals are hated and feared. (Aka people hate spider-man.) Tony and Peter have never met.
