“No, don’t bother. I can fix it. Probably.” George says it so matter-of-factly that Lockwood doesn’t even hesitate before handing it over. He’s actually quite surprised at the ease with which they have this conversation. Usually, they’d be bantering back and forth about it for a while, but George’s tone is completely in control--Lockwood doesn’t even question if he can fix it. It’s a kettle, for God’s sake, it’s not even electric, but George seems to know what he’s doing.
Actually, more that that: George takes apart the kettle easily, taking special care with the welded edges. He bites his lip when he examines the insides--apparently, it is electric! Who knew! George did, as he seems to have an almost encyclopedic knowledge of how kettles work.
Or; 5-ish times George has a mind for engineering, and some unintended consequences of that (i.e., Lockwood is an idiot, Lucy is in love, Flo is incredible, and George accidentally invents MIDI)

When Barbara opens her mouth to reply, Eddie holds up his hand. "I know what you're thinking. Yes, I had the time to make a safehouse before going to Egypt. Yes, Shahrukh is languishing without me. Yes, I've made very detailed instructions for you. You'll find them in your fridge."
"My fridge?" Barbara asks incredulously. She raises an eyebrow.
Eddie shrugs. "I am a crook, Babs."
"I know," Barbara says. "I know. I'll feed your pet. What is it, a cat? Lab mice? You look kind of like a bird person."
"You'll see," Eddie replies.
Barbara feeds Eddie's pet. It becomes, surprisingly, an act of healing.

To be honest, Alfred had not expected this. He prides himself on being able to predict the very big things in life. Bruce dressing up in a bat mask from his fifth grade Halloween costume and going out to fight evil? Silly, but predictable. That boy had always had an unnerving dedication to duty and also, on smaller occasions, dressing up.
However, this? This was beyond Alfred.

The old woman laughs, nodding. “Of course, of course. We’ve always got some room for some fellow friends of Hanguang-jun," she says.
Wei Wuxian marvels at how social Lan Zhan has become in the years since he's been dead. "Oh? If you don't mind me asking, how exactly did you become friends of Hanguang-jun?" he asks.
The two women exchange a look. It's a little wary but a little knowing too. "Ah," says the other one. "Well, we always kind of knew?"
"Yes," agrees the innkeeper. "It wasn't really one big thing."
"Ah." Wei Wuxian does not really understand how you can just know you're friends with someone, especially someone as personal as Lan Zhan. Oh well, he supposes this is just a new thing he'll have to get used to.

He leans in for a faked kiss as soon as Nie Huaisang pulls himself up on the tips of his toes, breath mere centimeters away from Lan Wangji’s ear. “New information. Relevant to both of us,” he whispers, landing a sloppy kiss on the side of Lan Wangji’s face.
Lan Wangji sighs in relief and anticipation as he returns the kiss. There is a sound from the bushes that makes it clear their efforts at deception are not going to waste.
or; nie huaisang and lan wangji are playing the long con where they pretend to be lovers to blackmail the lan sect into caring for a-yuan. naturally, this leads to lan wangji finding out some things about nie huaisang's deceased brother's sworn brother beforehand.

At some point, Jin Zixuan finds himself standing next to someone who he doesn’t even know. “Hello,” he says good-naturedly. “Who are you?”
“Ah,” replies the man next to him, dressed in a flowy white blouse and white sunglasses. “Hello, I’m Xiao Xingchen! It’s a pleasure to meet you!”
“Right. I’m Jin Zixuan. Although you probably knew that, since it’s my house.”
“Yes, that would do it,” Xiao Xingchen agrees with a sunny grin.
“So,” says Jin Zixuan, because he is curious. “Are we actually related? How are you even A-Ling’s uncle if I’ve never met you before?”
Xiao Xingchen seems thoughtful for a moment, counting on his fingers. “Well, I’m A-Xian’s foster uncle, and he’s Jin Ling’s foster uncle, so.... I’m an uncle by association? Technically?”
“Ah.”

Lan Wangji raised his son to loathe Sandu Shengshou for taking away his father. Is there a difference?”

Summary
Lan Zhan clenches a fist around the phone in her pocket, in a move that Wei Ying calls “repressed gay clench”. She takes a few deep breaths. She thinks happy thoughts. Like how she and Wei Ying will go to the farmer’s market after this and recuperate. Like how her teenage years have been marred by Xiongzhang probably using her to get closer to Nie Mingjue. Like how she could probably crush Jiang Cheng’s wrist after a few more gym visits.
(This isn’t honorable. Lan Zhan knows this, and yet, the thoughts remain. To be fair, Jiang Cheng does have very small wrists, so it isn’t completely violent, really. Wei Ying could probably crush her sister’s wrist with minimal effort. Oh, my God, Lan Zhan, don’t think about Wei Ying crushing someone’s wrist in front of your auntie.)
