His hair sticks to his forehead and red dye follows the line of sweat down his neck, where his necklace glints brightly in the strobe lights. Looking at him, Donghyuck feels like he can breathe again. Another vape cloud is blown in his face, and when it clears the boy is gone. The floor is thrumming and there’s a gold line leading into the basement, urging Donghyuck to follow it.

Renjun is staring down the bottom of his empty wine glass and considering retreating into the woods to live alone as a hermit for the rest of his life by the time someone slides into the seat across from him. He doesn't bother looking up; he knows who it is.
“You know how people used to think black cats were a sign of bad luck?” he asks.
“I don’t think that applies here,” Jaemin says, folding his hands to act like a chin rest as he blinks at Renjun from across the table. “Technically, I show up after all your bad dates. Also, I love cats.” As an afterthought he adds, “Meow.”
Renjun keeps going on terrible first dates, and keeps running into the same suspiciously handsome stranger after each one. It’s like something out of a romcom, except his life is not a romcom, so he can only assume the suspiciously handsome stranger is actually a suspiciously handsome stalker. Or maybe, just maybe—
