Summary
An hour in, Jughead takes the flask out and spikes his coffee. It tastes like shit – he knew it would – but he doesn’t care. He’s already got a bitter taste in his mouth. He tries to stop glancing behind himself every time the door jingles.

Summary
It’s been said the world will end not with a bang, but a whimper. For Jughead, it comes with the hiss of a bus’s air brake.
Archie stands up and shoves his hands into the pockets of his letterman. He doesn’t even have any bags with him.
People start to unload from the bus, milling around and chattering as the driver opens the baggage compartment. Jughead glances back at Archie, then back at the bus, then at Archie, as if he can force the two images to make sense together in his brain.
Archie is leaving. Archie is leaving.

Summary
It’s been years since Jughead Jones heard from Archie Andrews. After surviving an attempted murder, only to be spectacularly betrayed by both of his best friends, Jughead didn’t leave much behind when he moved away for college.
Three years later, Jughead still gets less sleep and more caffeine than he probably should, but aside from that, he’s a different person. Riverdale is solidly in his rear-view mirror.
Until, in the fall of his junior year, he gets a call from Mary Andrews. Archie is dead.
Well, he’s still officially declared “missing”, but he’s been gone for three weeks, and there were plenty of people with a hit out on him. Mary wants Jughead’s help investigating what happened to Archie, hoping for some kind of closure so she can finally grieve in peace. Jughead’s first instinct is to kindly turn down the offer: the news has already sent him into a downward spiral, and the last thing he needs is to spend more time thinking about Archie – until, on his birthday, an unmarked letter arrives in the mail.

Summary
Jughead’s mom says his dad is throwing his life away. Mr. Andrews says his dad is sick. Jughead wants to believe the second one, because if his dad is sick, that means he can get better.
He tries to help his dad get better, but he’s not sure how. Sometimes, when his dad comes back late at night and crashes on the couch, after he falls asleep, Jughead picks up his coat off the floor and hangs it on the hook, and helps take his shoes off, too, setting them right next to the front door. Those things, he knows how to fix.

Summary
Of course he can’t be their father figure, he’ll fuck everything up. He does fuck everything up. He’s Connor Roy, the test round, still basically living at home because no one cares about him unless he’s standing in Dad’s shadow. He isn’t their parent, and thank goodness for that, right? Something about trees and their apples.
(or: glimpses of Connor being the only actual dad his siblings have ever known juxtaposed against their present-day indifference.)

Summary
FP could almost laugh at his father’s ignorance. He knew who he was, with or without Fred. Senior made up his mind long ago that Fred Andrews was some pariah sent to seduce and corrupt his son, but FP suspects he knows the truth deep down. Just doesn’t want to admit he raised a fag all on his own. Anything he can do to put the blame elsewhere… Which is exactly why FP learned quick enough that he could never let Fred and his dad occupy the same space. Not without witnesses. Even just stepping foot onto the South Side was too risky.
But Fred was never much for following orders. Or correctly estimating the level of danger he was putting himself in. Which is why when he got wind of FP having the trailer to himself for the evening, he decided to make an appearance.
