Summary

He does what he has to do to survive. When his employer tasks him with finding the Book of Vanitas, he joins forces with an unexpected partner who he had run into in a brothel.
Well, he has no one else willing to help.

So he's ready for his days there to be as tedious as always; but then he meets Bakugou Katsuki.

Summary
Vanitas finds a man, unconscious and injured, at the shore. His first conclusion was that he'd stumbled upon a survivor of a shipwreck. Compelled by both human decency as well as his duties as a physician, he helps the marooned stranger, only to discover several things: mostly that he didn't have to be so resigned to his fate, after all.
