“I...” Yamaguchi broke the silence again, his voice tight, shaky.
This was bound to be a big one, then.
“I’m in love.”
Kei almost stumbled over his own feet then, almost choked on his own spit.
What.
(Or: Yamaguchi has taken to telling Kei things about his day while Kei has headphones on. This makes Kei feel... a certain way.)

Summary
“Isn’t it weird, how I know you because I can hold you?” Nicholas utters absently, nosing at Euijoo’s thigh. “You told me before that that was what you wanted from me. You wanted me to know you.”
Euijoo chuckles, recalling the memory fondly. He did say that, he thinks. His head still spins from the fact of being remembered at all. “Sometimes I forget that there’s even anything left of me to touch.”
“There is,” Nicholas assures, reaching up a little to place a soft kiss on Euijoo’s hipbone. “You’re a person, just like the rest of us.”
“Am I?”
“Just as much as I am, at least,” Nicholas counters, and Euijoo hums. “Let me show you.”

Summary
Breathtaking. He is simply breathtaking. His bare face is a force to be reckoned with, and Maki finds himself staring—really staring, cataloguing Yuma’s beautiful features and committing every single one of them to memory. And instead of responding to Yuma with words, Maki chose to respond with an action which left Heaven and Hell gaping; the TV murmured something intelligible in the backdrop, the central air-conditioning whirred as the dust particles purred against the créme walls, but Maki cannot hear them through the soft, audible gasp that left Yuma’s peony lips. Maki allowed his own to part, capturing the delicate sound in one fell swoop and devouring it whole if only for a second.

Summary
Yuma doesn’t understand it, but there’s just something about Maki that makes him feel conscious about himself. Not in a bad way, of course not. And contrary to popular beliefs, Yuma likes Maki—maybe even more than what he’d let on. Yuma just doesn’t know how to express himself in a way that doesn’t exhibit how his heart would stutter more often than not whenever Maki so much as smiles his way. Or when he acts like he’s trying to seek for Yuma’s validation, Yuma’s affection, Yuma’s love, to which he finds truly endearing. But you won’t find Yuma admitting that out loud.

“I think the kids might be a little… you know… scared of him.”
Fuma raised an eyebrow. “Which ones?”
Euijoo froze. “...I’m sorry?”
“Which kids do you think are scared of Nicholas? Did any of them mention something to you?”
“It’s not that they mentioned anything per se.”
“Are any of them acting differently around him?”
“Well… no.”
Fuma blinked a few times, waiting for Euijoo to elaborate or offer up some sort of actual explanation then. He didn’t – just stood there with his arms crossed too tightly across his chest to be casual, one of his hike-worn sneakers thumping an offbeat rhythm against the wooden floor.
Fuma’s eyebrows pulled together slowly. “Then I don’t follow.”
“Fine, it’s me, okay? He scares me.”

Summary
Euijoo stands up. “You should start with train locker rentals between Ueno and Nippori. She didn’t make it far on foot in those sandals.”
Nicholas gives him a proud little look like he’s just solved the case of the century.
Euijoo rolls his eyes. “Don’t look at me like that. You already knew.”
“Yes,” Nicholas grins, “but it’s more fun when you say it.”

Summary
“Her name is Minji,” He starts, watching with poorly concealed wonder as Nicholas hoists her up into his arms, her head laid on his shoulder, “She… I’ve never met her. But she had nowhere to go, Nico. I couldn’t… I couldn’t just leave her.”
Nicholas licks his lips. Minji has taken to him easily, clinging to him just like she had Euijoo. It’s unfortunate, how much she looks like him. Fine strands of brown hair and mono-lidded eyes that crinkle in the corners. If she’s so distantly related, then why can Nicholas almost believe she’s his daughter?
He clears his throat, looking back up. Euijoo’s hands are still paused mid-air, from where he’d handed Minji off, “You’re lucky your roommate majors in childhood psychology, then.”

Summary
‘Call me if you need anything else.’
There’s that illusion of choice–the word ‘if’ gave Nicholas a way out. But looking back, it wasn’t really a choice at all. Not when he’d gravitated towards Euijoo the first day he stepped foot inside that hospital. Not when he’d try to catch Euijoo’s eyes whenever they had morning briefings. Not when he needed two years to muster up the courage to ask for his number. Euijoo was the magician and Nicholas had played right into his trick–but who had built it all up in the first place?

“So they do exist,” Yudai correctly assumes, “to be fair, there’s only one type of person that can handle your craziness.”
Nicholas looks up from his note, staring at Yudai. “And that would be?”
“Someone who’s as married to their job as you are.” Yudai replies smoothly, like it’s the most obvious thing in the whole world.
“So basically–no one.” Nicholas snorts, putting his pen inside the pocket of his scrubs top.
“Or,” Yudai counters with a sly smirk, “someone just reckless–or brave–enough to think that you’re worth it.”

Summary
He likes the idea–how the heart takes care of itself, on autopilot, immune to emotions and distractions. But it can also betray you. Arrhythmias, heart failure, blockages–things can go wrong in the most delicate ways and then poof, you’re worm food. His heart hasn’t betrayed him–at least not in a way it matters–and yet, now, he feels the most betrayed he has ever felt with it because he doesn’t know why it feels like it’s beating out of his chest.
Maybe because Euijoo’s looking straight at him, maybe because he’s just kissed the narrow space in between his pecs so delicately it makes his chest burn, maybe because he looks so damn good on top of him.

Summary
Euijoo throws his head back and Nicholas can only stare at the protruding jugular vein along Euijoo’s neck; he contorts his body and places his lips on it, sucking lightly, biting down slowly, eager to hear another choked moan escape Euijoo’s lips. Euijoo puts a hand on Nicholas’ nape—the sudden touch making it all feel slightly more intimate than usual. There’s a sinking feeling stirring inside Nicholas’ stomach from the touch alone.
He knows it’s not the time to think about how good Euijoo looks under him nor is it the time to think about the schematics of whatever they have going on.

Summary
Nicholas nods, biting his bottom lip. “And you?” he says, raising his eyebrows slightly. “Not dancing with anyone?”
“Well.” Euijoo shuffles his feet. “You did just catch me in the act of trying to sneak out.”
“A waste,” drawls Nicholas, and this time, he does make it clear that his eyes are tracing Euijoo from head to toe, dark with intent. “But perhaps I am the one in luck, if there wasn’t anyone who caught your eye before.”
or: Euijoo typically does not really like going to parties, but he can't bring himself to regret going to this one.
